On a typical day we toy with the familiar – unfiltered lager, silky hefeweizen and puckery American IPA, anyone? – but at night we explore the crafty beer extremes from our medieval watering hole Haarlem (That's Haarlem with two 'a's, the Dutch one, and the namesake of New York's single-'a'ed Harlem).
Really truly, our idea of fun is abusing the rauchbeer-Scotch ale-sour beer-oak-aged Imperial Stout-Barley wine clichés. The first rule of owl school: when using hops think in wheelbarrows and not buckets.
So enjoy us, drink us and by all means hop fans abuse us right back – ideally via our social media channels where we announce our very active new creations.
Acquired by Swinkels Family Brewers in 2021.

One of the post-Heineken takeover NEIPAs by Uiltje (launched two years after said takeover, which took place in 2021) - now on the shelves of the Albert Heijn supermarkets. My can comes from the plant in Lokeren and was brewed in August - so I am tasting a hazy IPA from a supermarket at a mere three months old... I am still impressed by this radical evolution in beer, even despite the Heineken takeover in this case. Medium thick, off-white, 'Brugse kant'-like lacing, breaking but generally stable head on a hazed yellow blonde robe with warmer apricot tinge. Aroma of granadilla, overripe papaya, stale pomelo juice, gari, stewed sweet onions, 'diesel', dough, very ripe cucumber flesh, sweetclover, hints of mango, cooked green bell pepper and honey. Fruity onset from the hops - again granadilla and papaya, along with citric pomelo or even yuzu, but remaining quite low in sweet effects for this style; lively carb with minerally effects, smooth pale maltiness straightforwardly ensuing - but drenched in the hops, combining citrusiness with pepperiness and a dash of tropicalness, pushing forward retronasal aromas of lime blossom, fresh vine leaf, starfruit and pomelo peel. The hops even add some lingering bitterness, while a deeply situated yet persistent minerality also 'zings'. Fruity and zesty NEIPA - not as 'juicy' as expected perhaps based on its name, but decent enough. In rating this, I do not forget that I found this at less than three months old on a supermarket shelf - let that sink in, if you are old enough to remember what beer was in Western Europe two or three decades ago...

Can from Drankenhandel Leiden. Sweet malt with caramel, dried fruits, oak, raisins, candy, toasted malt. Fairly sweet, light bitter, not that boozy. Medium body. Fine, but could be a bit more complex.
Sensory Session #148: deep DARK brown-black color and a Tan head. Nose of Vanilla, chocolate and lovage, caramel and liquorice. Taste follows Rothe nose, a little bit more sweet caramel and liquorice. Sweet and spicy Finish. Well Hidden alc.

Schade!

Can picked up from a Dutch Supermarket in Vernray, Netherlands, I am quite sure it was Jumbo, yeah definitely was. Had tis at home Wednesday 5th November 2025, Bonfire 🔥 night after a Chilli con Carne. Pours hazy yellow with a mid sized sticky white head. Tastes a little safe, I get the whole West Coast Cold IPA vibe they're going for and whilst this is quite good I did just notice that by next Thursday 14th November it will be past it's BBD as brewed 14.11.24. nice soft mouthfeel, soft peachy fruitiness, there's a lazy lingering bitterness. Quite good but could have been a little bit crisper.

Can from a Lille Carrefour. Pours clear golden with a thin white head. Aromas of pineapple and malt. Taste adds some citrus. Decent bitter finish.
