Description
We are Oedipus Brewing. Founded by four friends in Amsterdam, we’re always ready to go where our taste buds take us. Oedipus is about fun, energy and doing things differently. We create fantastical beers to reveal to the world that beer is a magical beverage: tasty, exciting and for everyone. Welcome to our universe 🖖🏽

Since mid 2019 has Heineken a minority interest in the brewery. On June 21, 2023, it was announced that Heineken had acquired all shares of the brewery and thus became full owner of the brewery. The takeover coincides with the move of Oedipus.

The brewery and taproom at Gedempt Hamerkanaal 85 were closed on April 14, 2024. The brewery and taproom were moved to Schaafstraat 19, 300 meters further, where the Oedipus Craft Space will open in the early summer of 2024.

Let’s start with the APA which is a more iffy style to be drinking past its best by date: Oedipus Brewing Mama APA 5% Decent looking copper color with a thick soapy foam kind of head that leaves lots of lacing behind. The aroma is musty malty pine with caramel sweetness but yes it smells over the hill or heat damaged in transit. Full bodied with a crisp dry finish and sharp carbonic rasp. The taste is a sweet fruity grape up front then tangy pine woodsy earthy notes but the malts give it enough sweetness to balance it out. I wonder how this was fresh... BB 11/09/2019...

0.33 l can from 'Sterk Avondverkoop', canned in November 2019. A little hazy, golden yellow with a thin, frothy, almost stable, white head. Sweetish, gently, yeasty-spicy, fruity-floral and a bit herbal-grassy aroma of lemon peel, hay, dill and clove. Moderately sweet, slightly bitter, fruity-floral, gently herbal-grassy and a bit yeasty-spicy taste of lemon peel, hay, clove, some dill and a touch of pickles, followed by a short, moderately bitter, gently yeasty-spicy, slightly herbal-grassy and quite dry finish. Almost medium-bodied, gently effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Refreshing and easily drinkable Saison, fairly sessionable.

Pours a clear deep reddish purple colour and a dense pinkish head with good retention. Aroma's are sourish, berries, light sweetness. Additionally there's some funk retronasal. Flavour is moderate sour with light sweetness, light bitterness and upcoming funk. Medium bodied. Finishes with more funk, light moderate bitter.

(Draught at Arendsnest, Amsterdam, 28 Aug 2019) Black colour with lasting, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with coffee, chocolate and spicy wheat aromas. Malty, roasted taste with notes of coffee, dark chocolate, ripe banana, whaet and a balanced roasty bitternesss in the finish. Medium body, dry. Tasty and quite interesting, but the roastiness almost turns into burnt ashes after a while. Quite nice.

Bottle shared at Maakun’s. Dark brown with no head. Sour roasted grains, some dark berry, woody, tree bark, alder plugs (‘elzen proppen’), dark and rich, cold muddy earthy, composty. Medium body and soft carbonation. Nice and interesting project but not a keeper. --- Beer merged from original tick of Studio Oedipus No. 19 on 22 Dec 2019 at 00:09 - Score: 7.
