About
The Brown Cow Brewery, run by Susan and Keith Simpson, was formed in July 1997. Their beers are well respected with real ale drinkers and the beers have won many awards at festivals throughout the country.

A renovated building behind the Simpson’s home (the former Brown Cow Inn) houses the six-barrel plant. Being a ‘cottage industry’ the beers are delivered direct from the brewery, ensuring a quality product and personal service.

First class ingredients are used – the finest quality malt from the well respected Yorkshire maltsters Thomas Fawcett’s, together with carefully selected hops from America, New Zealand, Europe and England.

Note: not to be confuses with Brown Cow Alchemy Brewery, North Piddle in Worcestershire.

Cask (gravity) @ The 17th Reading Beer and Cider Festival 2011, Reading, Berkshire England.Clear medium orange yellow colour with a small to average, frothy - fizzy, good lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, toasted, fruity, light hoppy, citrus. Flavor is moderate sweet and light moderate bitter with a average to long duration, apricot, fruity. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20110429]

Cask (handpump) @ The New Wheatsheaf, 24 Southwark Street, Greater London, England SE1 1TY.Clear light to medium orange amber colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, pale malt, sour malt. Flavour is moderate sweet and bitter with a average to long duration, caramel, light sour malt, earthy, late finsh has plastic notes. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20110617]

Cask@The New Wheastsheaf, London. Amber colour, mediumsized beige head. Aroma is wood, nectar, mild nutty notes as well as some slight notes of nectar and honey. Flavour is fruits, mild liquorice, some herbs and mild earthyness.

Cask at the Bricklayers Arms BF. Brown pour with a light film. Roasty malts and mocha in the aroma. Great flavor, lots of dark chocolate syrup, light roast, faint, earthy bitters. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet finish with medium roastiness and plenty of mocha. Very good.

Cask handpull at Malt Shovel Northampton. Pale gold clear thin white head. Easy drinking pale beer. Pale malts are about right. Great condition. Some peach hop on finish. Some odd bacon and port on aroma. Bizarre but I must have liked it as it only lasted 5 mins.

Cask at the Bricklayer’s Arms BF, 2011. Dark brown with a creamy, beige head. Aroma has some very hard, dark malts, lightly roasted. Nice flavor, quite sweet and chocolatey, has some mild coffee, creamy, hints of toffee. Light to medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Finishes very sweet with lots of creamy mocha. A really nice beer overall.

Cask. A dark brown beer with a red shine. The aroma has notes of roasted malt and chocolate. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of roasted malt, caramel, and soy sauce, leading to a dry finish where the caramel note combined with a touch of butter lingers.

Cask. An opaque dark brown beer with a thin brown head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, vanilla, and chocolate. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt as well as lighter notes of soy sauce, roasted malt, and vanilla, leading to a dry, roasted, and grainy finish.
