Description
We brew beer that is distinct because we believe that moments together call for something memorable. It could be our Midwestern roots, or the land we draw inspiration from, but crafting the right beer for the right moment is central to us.

Unprocessed grain flavor. Gold, and very light. Some honey, and a little lager yeast. I am sorry to say this just isn’t very good.

Pours a turbid dark brown - thin wisp of lace - aroma of intensely strong coffee, moderate bourbon, vanilla beans, a touch of coconut/toasted oak - the flavor has an initial sharp bitterness from the coffee, followed by spicy alcohol - the oak and bourbon don’t manifest until the finish, but they come on strong - alcohol gets astringent as it warms - good, but somewhat over-rated (like a lot of other CW beers).

12oz bottle. Hazy orange-tan color. Mildly sweet, subdued aroma. Easy on the palate, quite smooth and drinkable. The honey is well incorporated with the malt and crisp balanced bitterness. A little thin, but it sort of helps the honey not come off too thick. Good stuff, I’d try it again.

2009 bottling - Pours a slightly hazy ruby color - somewhat earthy oakiness in the aroma, with notes of vanilla, bourbon, toffee, cherries - the flavor is heavy with coconut and toasted oak - the wood dominates much of the beer, especially in the finish, where is starts to taste like sucking on a barrel - through the middle it tries to overcome this flaw, with sweet toffee, treacle, caramel, chocolate - but these flavors get washed out by the strong oak and peppery alcohol in the finish - less time in the barrel next time and this will be a lot better.

Bottle thanks to pepsican. Different label, but it still read "Brewer’s Reserve Bourbon Barrel Stout". Pours with a fading tan head over a deep black-brown body. Aroma of bourbon, charred wood, vanilla, chocolate, maple and a bit of smoke. Taste is a bit of sour malt, chocolate, wood, bourbon. Finish is a bit lactic, possibly bugged. Watery mouthfeel for an Imperial stout, light carbonation.

Bottle from pepsican. Pours with a small khaki head that fades over an ultra dark brown body. Aroma of tar, dark chocolate, raisiny (special B), dark fruits, leather and and ash. Taste is Belgian style imperial stout with notes of chocolate, slightly metallic and vinous, and dark cherries. Slightly viscous and syrupy mouthfeel. Light carbonation.

Bottle thanks to pepsican. Pours with a large, creamy tan head over an ultra dark brown body. Aroma is strong with coffee, chocolate, tons upon tons of spicy roast, soil, cocoa dust, vanilla, oak, leather, hazelnut liqueur and something else I can’t read from my notes. Taste is coffee, vanilla and hazelnut creamer. A bit salty in the finish. Not a lot of residual sugars, but it works well. Mouthcoating and a bit syrupy, light carbonation. Very nice.

Courtesy of Gillard. Pours dark brown with amber edges and mocha head. The aroma is coffee with a backbone of chili peppers, chocolate, molasses and mild burnt malts. The taste is smooth goodness spiking first with a pulse of chili peppers and then quickly moving into chocolate, molasses as well as roasty to burnt malts. This is smooth, rich and deliciously good.

12oz bottle. Thick chocolate black color with a big luscious tan head. Roasty chocolate coffee aroma. Mild carbonation brings out some serious Milk Stout qualitites, very lactic, smooth, creamy. There is some initial hop balance that gets taken over by the big chocolaty malt. A little syrupy, lingering chocolate aftertaste. I really enjoyed this beer a lot, imperial and yet not concerned with being an alcohol bomb.
