Description
UnBarred was established in 2014 from the shed of our founder and Head Brewer Jordan Mower. Born of a passion to brew uncompromising and exciting beer, our original flagship IPA won the Bev Robbins Award for the Best Sussex Beer in its first year of production. We soon outgrew the shed and moved onto gypsy brewing, enabling us to grow production and hone our craft, working together with other fabulous breweries.

Since establishing our taproom and brewery in the heart of Brighton in August 2019, we have doubled our production and embraced the Brighton community that we call home. Our core range is stocked nationwide, alongside ltd editions that embody the creativity, passion and freedom that have always defined our core ethos. We love to collaborate with other breweries that share those same values.

We’re inclusive, passionate and adventurous in everything we do, from our beer conception through to our design, brewing and welcoming taproom experience. To celebrate our roots, we love to work with local artists, independent businesses and fellow-creatives to showcase the best of the vibrant culture and boundless innovation of this beautiful city.

We are UnBarred.

Keg draught at the Real Ale Classroom, City Centre, Leicester. Very dark brown with a small layer of khaki/tan head. Nutty, chocolate aroma. The hazelnut really stands out here. Tastes sweet, but odd and kind of artificial. I'm getting hazelnut and cola. Gets better as I drink but it's not quite gelling for me. The body's medium with heavy carbonation. Good enough but maybe not one I'd have again.

Keg at BD Sheps Boost, 20/10/23. Pale golden yellow topped with a good sized white head. Nose is lemon sherbets, grass, hedgerow, balsa wood. Taste comprises more lemon sherbet, grass, hay bale, straw, modest acidic rip. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a light puckering edge. Okay refresher if a touch 1D.

Cask @ Tap and Can. Misty gold pour, white head. Should've probably started with this, floral gently sweet malt coming across like a fragrant golden ale. Decent cask sipper.

On tap at Nelson Arms Tonbridge. Black beer lasting tan head. Good aroma. Dark malt. Some spirit. Not really a lot of bourbon. But it's very pleasant. Yes liked it. Not overly nitro Some roasted malt character.

Can from Beer 53 – drank at home. Pours almost black with minimal very transient beige head. Fairly high carbonation. Om opening the can there’s a definite fruity aroma, but by the time it reaches the glass it’s more coffee orientated. In the mouth, the two combine to give milky coffee and tropical fruit plus hints of dates and figs. Sweet and creamy but with some zest to it. Eventually some roasted malts can be detected. Nice enough, but not much of a stout characteristic to it.
