Description
I am Steve Hughes, a farmer’s son with an MBA. Ex factory worker. Not scared of hard work. Rosie was our Jack Russell and used to help me plant the orchard. A brilliant little dog whose name lives on.

After my initial 5 gallons of cider made in 2005, I started planting up cider orchards. We now have over 1000 standard apple trees made up of 69 different varieties, all trying their best to cling on at 1000 feet above sea level. I have now got a feel for those apple varieties that work well up here (and the ones that rather wish they lived further South).

Polycask at Banbury Beer Festival 05.05.11 Pours very light gold in fact maybe more straw colour I would imagine. There is a strange powderyness feel to this in the mouth, bit like artificial sweetners, that said it isn’t bad its just what I’m picking up. Its got a juiciness which whilst initially fruity and sweet dries at the end. Not bad at all. A6 A4 T6 P6 P3 Ov12 3.2

Polycask at The Royal Oak, Wantage, Oxon, 26-01-10 Was told that this was going to be really dry, but I found it to be more med’ dry and very easy drinking. Nice crisp aples on nose, touch of woodiness, good thrusty tang to this, really pleasant stuff. A6 A4 F7 P4 Ov13 3.4

Bag in a box at 2nd Thanet Cider and Perry festival, Churchill Tavern, Ramsgate. Haze gold/orange. Some plastic/rubber, some good tannic apple juice, it’s ok, good character.

Thanet Cider and Perry Fest 08. Mine was 6.3% Some decent varnish in this. Good apple juice, some dryness on end. Yep varnish on aroma. A bit of white wine grape like to be honest. Like an Alsace white wine. Good, different.

Plastic cask, 7.4% at GBBF08. Hazy pale yellow colour. Thin flavour, not sweet and not really dry or sour. Quite boring.

From the barrel @ GBBF 2007, London. Unclear medium orange color with virtually none head. Aroma is moderate apple, dry apple, smoe notes of brown sugar. Flavor is moderate sweet with a average duration, nice sweet and sour dryness. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is flat.
