Bottle shared at the chriso and Ruth pre-Christmas / post-Pigs Ear holiday tasting of 2015 - London. Cheers! Picked this bottle up at the Lab. Pours unclear golden-brown with a creamy khaki head. The aroma has notes of toasted brown bread, toffee, phenols, light earth. Medium sweet flavour with some candi sugar, toffee, dark fruits, brown bread. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Sugary and bready on the finish, with more dark fruits and toffee. A very serviceable dubbel. Drinkable gear.

The nose has lemon, faint plastic, straw. Light-medium sweet flavor with pale citrus fruits, simple pale bread. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly rindy in the finish, moderately sweet, with notches of spicy pine, citrus, pale bread. Not bad.

Bottle at home in London - picked up from the Lab. Pours clear, pale yellow with a foamy, pure white head. Nice aroma, with notes of dried citrus peel, lemon rind, pithy grapefruit, pale bread. Light sweet flavor, good and pithy, with slight bitter hay and pine needles, more lemon rind, grapefruit, hints of grass. Light bodied with average carbonation. Crisp and clean on the finish, with some biscuity pale malts, further pithy grapefruit and lemon, a little grain husk. Quite refreshing overall.

Bottle at home in London - picked up at the brewery. Pours totally clear, honey-gold, lightly effervescent, with a thick, creamy white head. Mellow citrusy hops in the aroma, some orange, tangerine, hints of lightly toasted pale malts. Light-medium sweet flavor with steadying pale malt sugars, some tangerine, melon, subtle grapefruit, mild piney bitterness. Light bodied with average carbonation. Pretty well balanced on the finish, with more citrus hop character, sturdy pale malt sweetness, very slight accents of caramel and marmalade, some honeydew and canteloupe, just a hint of grass. Overall, it’s a very drinkable American pale ale.

Bottle. Thanks for sharing Leighton. Quite hazy orange color, average sized white to off-white head. Smell and taste malts, a bit yeasty, some herbs or spices but quite balanced and it actually brings out a slight fruity touch. Not bad at all. Quite decent.

Bottle at home in London - picked up at the Lab. Opens with a loud and lasting hiss, and with the cap off it immediately starts to rise out of the bottle. The excessive effervescence within the bottles disturbs all the yeast, which, when the beer is poured, make themselves known as the float mindlessly about. The beer is murky, burnished red-gold, with a billowing mild tan head. There are a lot of hops present in the aroma: earthy, a little dirty, certainly piney and grassy. The beer is light to medium sweet, keenly oily and resinous, with a bit too much piney and grassy bitterness, some toasted grains, earth, orange peel. Light to medium bodied with out of control carbonation. Heavy and resinous on the finish - it’s like chewing on a raw hop flower, and it leaves your mouth with that lingering, sticky feeling that anyone who has ever tried raw hops would recognise but, perhaps, not particularly relish. Beyond that, there’s more toasted grain, earth, ripening citrus fruits, some flinty minerals. The aftertaste is oily grass and pine. The flaws in this beer are numerous; although, perversely, the over-abundance of carbonation probably helps to inhibit the intensity and rawness of the hops. But still, two wrongs don’t make a right, and this is not a beer of which I would want to drink a lot.

Bottle at home in London - sourced from the Lab. Pours crystal clear gold, effervescent, with a dense, creamy off-white head. Strong smoke character in the aroma, some dry wheat, hints of dough and bubblegum. Light to medium sweet flavor with some ripening berries, a little bit of damp wood, more smoke, wheat bread, light bitter hay, orange rind. Light bodied with lively carbonation and massaging texture; but it’s a bit over-carbonated. Moderately sweet on the finish, with more wheat bread, moderate dry smoke, toasty hay, hints of caramel, berries, citrus. Not a bad effort, this. Pretty solid overall.

Bottle at home in London - picked up at the Lab. Opens with an audible hiss, but does not gush. Pours clear gold, lavishly effervescent, with a billowing, pure white foam head. Husky pale grains in the nose, hints of plastic, lemon peel. Light sweet flavor with dry pale malts, bitter grass and plastic, lemon rind, hay, husk. Light bodied with very active carbonation. A little drying on the finish, more dry pale malts, grain husk, straw, grass, accents of sourdough bread. It’s not great, but in the end it’s drinkable.

Bottle at home in London - picked up at the Lab. Opens with a hiss and starts a slow gush immediately; pour quickly, though, and it’s alright. Pours clear gold with a big, fluffy white head that settles into a cream. Mild bready pale malts in the aroma, hints of citrus fruits. Light sweet flavor with a touch of tangerine meringue, dough, white sugar. Light bodied with average, massaging carbonation. Lightly sweet on the finish, with further meringue, mellow citrus fruits, very faint bitter hay. Overall, it’s a tasty, easy-drinking golden ale.
