Description
Artisanally brewed in Amsterdam since 2011.

Combining influences from the rich European beer culture with a non-conformist attitude.

From a family heritage of Swedish farm brewers and trained by the masters of ale and porter in England, we ended up in the Netherlands to create our own microcosm in the world of beer.

Inspired by the lesser known sides of European brewing culture and devoted to uncommon artisanal techniques, Butcher's Tears makes distinctive beers that progress beyond fashion and convention.

Pours hazy light golden, and a stiff white head with good retention. Aroma's: sweet grain, resin, sourish. Retronasal it's sweetish, resinous bitterish, fruity sourish, and just a hint of the regular BT mossiness. Flavour is light sweet and above moderate bitter, with a touch of fruity sour. Medium bodied. Hopbitter finish.

Can 33cl. @home poured into a shaker. Hazy pale golden colour, mid-sized moussy white head, half-way lasting, fair lacing. Aroma pale malts, orange, lemon grass, bready, resinous notes. Light sweet and bitter taste, orange, bready, mineral and resinous notes, mouthfeel 'hard' water. Light body, thin texture, soft carbonation, dry sweetbitter aftertaste, metallic & mineral notes, hmm strange brew, okay.

Bottle from advent calender. Clear mahogany with thick beige head. Looks good! Bready malts, dried plums, grapes, caramel. There's a touch of vinegar but it's not too present. Over medium sweet, light bitter and some lingering saltyness. Full bodied. I thought I might not like the vinegar, but it's quite OK. It's more the salt that's slightly too much but it's an interesting beer.

Had a few sips of the original batch once, now a whole bottle of this 'New batch, 1,5 years after bottling. Pours pitch black, a dense brown head that doesn't last very long. Aroma's of peat, iodine, leather, smoked malt. Retronasal it's smoky, iodine, chocolate, plus some of the regular BT moss. Flavour is light moderate sweet, dark chocolate, light peaty sourness. Medium bodied. Long finish, ashy, burnt, bitter. Good stuff.
