Description
Great beer is messy.
From the outset in 1997, Dark Horse Brewery was fueled by a relentless pursuit of excellence and creativity in brewing, with an unflinching disregard for anything that didn’t captivate the taste buds.
In truth, the journey has been filled with adversity, highs, lows, and even a bit of TV show fame. Some might even label the odyssey as reckless. Yet, it was through this tumultuous journey that Dark Horse Brewery honed its award-winning craft and culture. Producing remarkable IPAs, beloved ales, big bold stouts, sought-after session beers, wild events, and boasting more than 5000 mug club members.
Fast forward 27 years, now guided by new leadership under managing partner Chuck Mascari Jr. Dark Horse Brewing Co. remains one of the few lasting independent forces in the Michigan craft brewing scene with a brand impact embraced across the globe. Every month, over 1,000 hardcore #darkhorsenation beer fans check in to our brews on Untappd, from all over the world!
Now, we’re not only a craft brewery, but also a small distillery and small winemaker. Our Beer Garten is a unique entertainment venue for up-and-coming artists. For patrons and Marshall visitors, we offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner at our Commons Market and Taproom, and open our Beer Garten from May through October. There are six major events at the brewery every year starting with Winterfest Beer Olympics and ending the year with an 80’s themed, 4ELF Party!

On tap at Dark Horse, pours black with a medium tan head. Aroma brings out gentle chocolate and a hint of roast. Flavour is dry and cocoa-y, with a nice toasted malt character and dry cocoa. Chocolatey and dry, making this very drinkable. Good stuff.

On tap at Dark Horse, pours a cloudy bright pinkish red with a small white head. Aroma is intensely fruity, with tons of raspberries and blackberries, followed by the lemon, and plenty of lacto. Flavour is ridiculously fruity, like drinking tropical fruity juice, with shitloads of berries and lemon, with a yogurty base. Juicy and delicious, but hardly beer-like.

On tap at Dark Horse, pours a clear dark amber / burgundy with a small beige head. Aroma brings out bready malt and toasted caramel, with a touch of molasses. Flavour is rich, with lots of caramel, dark fruits, bready malt, and a little molasses. Rich and decadent without being too sweet. Excellent.

Bottle split at L6 at the Tipple's had tasting, thanks to New Ken, 17/04/19. Black with a moderate tan covering. Nose is chocolate, dark malts, light sugar coating, dried fruits, spice, mellow barrel. Taste comprises bitter sweet fruits, toffee, mellow roast, spice, cocoa powder, light bourbon kiss. Medium plus bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a light boost. Not bad.

12 oz. can from Total Wine-Viera. Pours a medium bronze color with an off-white head and good retention. No lacing. Caramel and light hops aroma. The taste matches the nose: Caramel malt flavor up front and a light hops finish. I taste almost no orange. This is more of an amber ale than an APA. Decent flavor, just mis-marketed.

Fluffy tan head left a creamy cover on a mahogany coloured body. Maple syrup, clove, Christma pudding & demerara aroma. Medium bodied, soft over the palate lightly carbonated clean back. Spicy tastes with raisin, syrup, clove, medicinal & herbaceous tastes with tangy peppery finish.
