Description
Started brewing in 1995 by two former employees of Smiles Brewery using the same plant as Henstridge Brewery.
Moved to Siston Lane, Bristol in the summer of 1999.
Having outgrown these premises a further relocation to their current site at Units 3-7 Caxton Industrial Estate, Crown Way, Warmley, Bristol was carried out during March 2004.
A 50 barrel brewplant is used. A small on-site brewery was installed at their new (2013) Graze pub in Bath and was used to brew Platform 3 beer (originally 5.7%, latterly 4.5%) and the occasional special.
The beers branded as Beerd were from a small-batch plant within the main brewery at Warmley.
Mid 2016 brewery bought out by St. Austell brewery, with the inevitable cessation of the Beerd brand and the brew plant in Bath.
Production of Bath Ales cask range has been reduced to just Gem, with the spare capacity used by St. Austell for overflow production of Tribute and other St. Austell beers.
Since late 2025 Bath Ales became just a brand of St. Austell

Bottle from Connollys Wines, Solihull. Poured a dark mahogany colour with a broken tan head. The aroma is malt and peat. The flavour is medium bitter with earthy peaty smoky notes and some liquourice bitter sharpness. A very good stout, but lacks a little flavour IMO.

Bottle 50 cl. Pours an almost clear golden with only a tiny film of white head. Lovely spicy aromatic hops. Light body, low carbonation, a nice downplayed fruitiness with only a suggestion of hops. Pleasant and sessionable. 030113

Blackfriar, Blackfriars 30 Okt 12. Nicholson Festivaløl. Gyldenbrun. Lavt skum. Aroma av frukttyggegummi. Smaken det samme med tilføyelse av søte plommer og antydning til mandler. Kjedelig.

Bottle from Connollys Wines, Solihull. Poured a ruby red colour with a thin tan head. The aroma is of toffee and caramel. The flavour is bitter rich and zesty with smooth caramel notes. The flavour was quite unexpected. I’m looking forward to more beers from Bath Ales.

On tap @ the Haymarket. Pours golden to amber with a good amount of carbonation and a nicely proportioned head, The nose has lemon, grapefruit and hay. The taste has more of the same but emphasis on the citrus. The palate is light to medium bodied with a clean finish. Overall, a good session ale.

Gravity Dispense at White Horse Parsons Green, Old Ale Festival - 23/11/12. Very dark mahogony brown with no head. Nose is toffee, caramel, light antiseptic, wood. Taste follows on, dark fruit, light booze, no sign of any rum! Medium bodied, very limited carbonation, smooth on the palate. Bit of a let down!

Gravity cask at The White Horse on Parsons Green, London during the 2012 Old Ale Festival. Pours clear brown with a light, tan cream head. Semi-dark malt nose, some fruits. Dark bread flavor, some toast, dark fruits. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet, dark malt finish, some dark sugars, faint earthy bitterness, more dark bread. It’s OK.
