On tap at The Rake, Southwark, Saturday 7th February 2015 Pours gold with a slim white head, in very good condition . A gentle hoppy nose, good hoppy bite. I think that this is my first beer from this brewery, I have to say I am impressed. A7 A5 T7 P3 Ov14 3.6

Bottle at home in London - sourced from London Beer Lab. The beer pours perfectly clear, lightly effervescent, with a sturdy white froth that lingers. The aroma is bright with grassy and floral hops mixed up with rindy citrus notes, notably tangerine and orange. The flavour is well balanced, with good up-front grassy bitterness that is balanced by a lean biscuity sweetness. There are also additional notes of citrus fruits, some orange rind and grapefruit pith. Light in body with spritely carbonation. The finish is pretty clean with only moderate grassy, resinous hop character, further citrus rind, and pleasant balancing pale malt sweetness. There’s a slight cleaning minerality in the aftertaste, which I don’t mind at all. The more I drink of this beer, the more I like it. There’s a lot of character packed into this 3.8% ABV frame. Golden ale is certainly not a flashy style, but when done right it’s a thing of beauty; this one is done right. (February 2015, score: 3.9)

Cask at Beer Rebellion, GH. It pours dark brown with a medium beige head. The nose is rich, roasted malt, smoke, tar, chewy and mild treacle sweetness. The taste is bitter, rich roast, charred wood, smoke, burnt leaves, tar, earth, treacle and ash with a dry, roasty finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Interesting and pretty decent. Nice to see these guys head to the dark side.

Cask gravity at Pig’s Ear Beer Fest 2014. Light hazed yellow / straw coloured pour with a lasting loose white head. Aroma is earthy straw, earthy orange peel, a bit zesty. Flavour is composed of pale grains, orange peel citrus, grain tanin. Palate is fairly light, moderate carbonation. A bit grainy on the tongue. Lingering earthy citrus. Pretty good.

Tasting at Leighton’s Flat. Lightly hazy amber beer, few pale cream colour bubbles. Light pale malts. Little floral sweetness. Good citric hops, citrus peel. More floralness. Little lemon. Light finish. Very drinkable and tasty amber but surely this and ’Southpaw’ are one and the same beer?
