Description
Congleton raised Nick Calvert set up Front Row Brewing as an artisan bespoke brewery in 2012. Alongside his striving business in textile printing he wanted to use his passion in real ale to open his own brewery. As a ex prop in rugby player for Congleton and Sandbach rugby clubs it was only fitting that the theme of the brewery to follow suit.

Handpull cask at the Rising Sun, Tipton. Dark chocolate brown, just a little bit translucent and a relatively small khaki head on top. A good bit of lacing. Aroma of milk chocolate, a shadow of mint. Tastes of more chocolate, cherry yoghurt, little bit of mint, little bit of smoke. Sweet with a little bit of bitterness under the finish. Silky body, soft carbonation. Glad to make its acquaintance!

My experience with Rugby Union players is limited, but I did encounter a Wasps training session on a snowy day in West London once. Easy seasonal Rugby special, hop-malt balance, nothing special but more than drinkable.

Clear pale gold with a frothy/creamy white head and a soft biscuit aroma with just a hint of citrus. Smooth and creamy, has a smoky bacon edge to it, floral hops and a touch of dry citrus bitterness in the finish.

7/2/2025. Cask at the 15th Elysian Winter Beer Festival. Pours clear pale amber/brown with a small bubbly off-white head. Aroma is buttery, caramel, malt, citrus, touch charred. Medium sweetness and bitterness with a slight fruity tart edge. Moderate sweetness, slightly oily and watery, soft carbonation. Not great but did improve on early impressions.
