Description
Residents of Boston’s North Shore were first introduced to Ipswich Ale during the spring of 1991. With over 30 years of history behind it, Ipswich Ale has been in existence longer than nearly every other craft brewer in New England. Since that time, the Ipswich Ale portfolio of brands have developed into a tradition shared by not only the residents of eastern Massachusetts, but across New England.

Took over production for Newburyport Brewing in 2019, before both breweries were acquired by Huntwicke Capital Group later that year.

Began a partnership with RiverWalk Brewing in late 2023, moving the bulk of production to RiverWalk's facilities, while leaving a small pilot system in Ipswich for small batch and experimental brews.

12 oz bottle. Pours a dark amber color with a white head. Light spotty lace. The aroma is hoppy, with pine and resin. The taste is pine and citrus hops with some bitterness. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. I didn’t allow the brew to warm, I drank rather fast. Normally I’m not a fan of IPA’s, but this one was ok.

12 oz bottle. Head shrank quick; to make a small ring of light lacing. Excellent aroma of chocolate and roasted coffee beans. Taste of dark fruit and chocolate, oatmeal with hints of cream. Hints of coffee, and a touch of smoke. The smoke and roast takes over for a dry finish. Thicker, creamy body with medium carbonation. This beer is nothing new but it is GREAT oatmeal stout. Highly drinkable. Any stout lover would like this one!

12 oz. bottle. Nice unfiltered hazy orange. Lots of floating sediment. Aroma of light fruit and pale malt. The flavors are bread like with some dry apricot, light bitterness, some English hops. It has a slight complexity. Well balanced. If you have a chance to get a bottle or two, pick it up. Nice example of the style, great job by this brewer.

From the beer of the month club. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a cloudy orange-caramel color with a large foamy beige head that lingered and produced some lacing. The aroma was bitter with vague fruits and light caramel, nut and pine with a bit of harshness throughout. The flavor was bitter with notes of pine, grapefruit, butterscotch, caramel and butter. A touch harsh. The finish was long and bitter with pine and butterscotch lingering. Fairly full bodied.

Pour is a murky brown with an average white head. Aroma is caramel and slight hops. Flavor is more malty than hoppy. Its almost all sweet malts that block out an hop profile. Maybe they were going for a old world IPA but the bottle says highly hopped. I did not get any thing in the way of a nice IPA.

Pour is a copper with an average white head. Aroma is very minimal with an malty caramel. Flavor is again very sweet malt and not much in the way of hops. Finish leaves a little caramel on the tounge. Kinda bland and mundane.

Pours a solid black with a creamy tan head the dissipates quickly to form a cap. Smells of chocolate, some roasted malts, a bit of licorice some subdued hops. Taste is roasty, chocolaty, bit of acridic bitterness finishing with a nice lingering roast and hop aftertaste. Creamy smooth mouthfeel, medium body. ample carbonation. Great little oatmeal stout. Lots of flavor and easy to drink.
