Big 16oz pour at Max’s in Baltimore. Pours a lightly viscous, opaque black with one ring of yellow head. Really great nose, nutty, coffee, malty, brown sugar, toast, light pepper, molasses. Flavor is sweet, brown sugar, vanilla, coffee grounds, toast, dark malts, molasses. A really great blend of flavors. Full bodied, smooth, vanilla, toasty finish.

Bottled. A hazy amber beer with an off-white head. The aroma has notes of fruits - especially lemons and limes. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, straw, and lemons, leading to a bitter finish.

Served on draft at Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a clear copper color with a thin creamy offwhite head. Decent head retention. Aroma of pumpkin spices and herbal hops. The taste is pumpkin, pumpkin spices and a hoppy finish. Thin-medium bodied. Seems a little hollow... missing something. A little bit too hoppy. Soft carbonation.

Staff recommendation at Churchkey. Not a bad pumpkin beer, the spice outweighs the squash, and it doesn’t taste like pumpkin pie.

Hazy deep copper coloured body with a bronze glow and a nice, smallish, one centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of fresh grassy and floral hops, some light sweetness, a good dose of malt and a touch of alcohol. Medium-bodied; Assertive earthy and floral hops at first with a good but slightly mellow malt backbone with a nice earthy pungent caramel and toffee sweetness. Aftertaste shows some complexity from the toasted sugars, but not enough from the hops especially and the malt. Overall, a nice beer, not good or great, but a nice attempt at the style. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Norm’s in Vienna, Virginia on 30-July-2011 sampled at home in Washington on 13-September-2011.

750 mL bottle from Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA, opened 7/20/11. Bottle 171 of 1200. Pours a clear medium red color with a medium sized fizzy tan head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of oak and big rum notes along with faint stone fruits, hops and vanilla. The taste is toasted malts, rum, wood, plum, vanilla, maple, faint bitter hops in the finish. Medium bodied. This beer probably isn’t as intrinsically good as I’m going to rate it but this is made just to my liking. If it weren’t $15 a bottle, I’d get a case.
