Sustainability and locality is at the heart of what we do. Our water comes from deep in the Norfolk chalk from our private supply beneath the brewery, and is perfect for brewing real ale.
Our main ingredient, Maris Otter malting barley is grown locally at Branthill Farm on the Holkham Estate. This is some of he finest malting barley on the planet.

28/10/2025. Cask at Norwich Beer Festival (Waterfront). Gent serving was very enthusiastic about this beer and massively overpoured my third. Aroma is very fruity, toasty, malty, marmalade. Moderate sweetness and bitterness with a slight tartness. Burnt toasted edge. Likeable.

Pours golden-amber, good white head. Sweet nose, caramel shines through, fruitiness. Tastes fruity with melanoid notes, cookies, caramelized malt, malt finish with a bitter accent. Decent Old Ale for relaxing after work.

Cask. White Horse Brancaster. Clear medium gold. Slim lacing white head. Nose has brioche loaf malts. Touch of peppery hop. Taste has a soft bready sweetness with decent levels of hop leaf bitterness. Easy drinking affair with light bitterness to finish.

Infected bottle.
Too much yeast.
Overgrowing head & twirling body.
What a mess & a waste of £3.50
Drain pour.

Sample courtesy of Grumbo, cheers GB. Aroma is herbal, grassy, malty with hints of citrus and stone fruits. Honey and caramel coming through on the taste. Still quite lively mouthfeel. Easy to drink and quite enjoyable.

Bottle from Beers of Europe, online. Pours a near black with small tanned head, some retention. Aroma of roasted sweet malts, chocolate, liquorice, coffee, spice Taste of sweet malts, roast, chocolate, tangy dark fruit middle, finishing dry with roast, liquorice, yeast, mild sourness. Interesting. Near medium bodied, moderate carbonation. Quite a tangy stout with some sourness. Not sure if the yeast took hold a bit too much in my bottle or if it genuinely is supposed to taste like this. For me in slightly distracts from the stout elements although still a decent interesting brew.

500ml bottle purchased from Beers of Europe some time ago and drunk at home. Mid- to dark gold and clear with a small smattering of off-white head. Lots of caramel on the nose, lighter notes of raisin, orange rind and honey. Sweet taste at first, tempered by gentle bittering hops. More caramel, tamarind and grape in the finish. Light to medium body, medium carbonation. As magnificent as the men after whom it was named.
