Tap at Cherry Reds, Birmingham. Poured a clear dark brown with a thin broken light tan head. The aroma is big creamy caramel, chocolate, vanilla, light dry coffee. The flavour is moderate sweet with a rich roasty liqourice, light floral hop palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Keg tap at the Blue Moon, Cambridge. Amber and slightly hazy with a small film of off-white head and lots of creamy lacing. Spruce, treacle and a touch of butter rum on the aroma. Taste quickly sinks into a bready sweetness, but there’s a pronounced hoppy bitterness asserting itself near the end of the sip. Long bitter finish with a suggestion of sourness. Wholemeal toast and biscuit spread in the aftertaste. Really worth a try.

Cask at Craft Beer Clerkenwell. Amber with a loose cream head that laces the glass nicely; light rye aroma; taste of caramel and rye; then a spicy bitterness, with lingering caramel. Not very impressive.
