Cask at Bird in Hand, Stafford. Pours a very dark reddish-brown with a small tan head and good lacing. There’s roasted malts in the aroma, plus hints of dark fruits and coffee. In the mouth the initial impression is of both sweet and bitter characteristics. Flavour has roasted malts, cherries and liquorice with hints of chocolate, coffee and marmalade coming later. Finish is slightly fruity. This is decent.

Cask at the London & North Western, Birmingham. Clear light amber with smooth off white head, good lacing. Bready malt with overripe stone fruits and not much in the way of flavouring hops. There is a nice sessionable balance to it though.

Taste is dry with malt element dominating, butter notes, some tropical and a slight zesty bitterness. Light bodied and moderate carbonation. Not great but more than drinkable.
