Bottle picked up directly from Higgins and consumed Saturday 3rd January 2026 after a loop walk to Gasthof zum Sonnewald Schofweg. We had a Roast Chicken tonight it was fab'. We're listening to our albums of the year for 2025. Pours amber with great clarity with a slim white head. Dried fruits on the aroma, malty. Taste following a similar vein, light hoppiness, a little woodiness, fruity again, a touch harsh. Fine. Score 6.9

We visited here Friday 24th October 2025 after a couple of weeks in the UK, we arrived via the Stena overnight ferry this morning and drove straight here en route back home. I guess this is located on a trading/business park area, quite a decent one, leaf, not ugly. I am not that sure how far from the centre of the town this is, as we had literally just drove here so used mainly motorways and main roads.

There is parking outside and I really think that to actually shop here you would need a vehicle as I would be surprised if there is much in the way of public transport. Inside it is small and the shop is simple with just a couple of rows of shelving with beers, what is clear that there is only one of each beer on the shelf and you are handed a small sheet with which you put the number of a particular beer, quantity etc then hand it to the super nice gut, who by the way was very helpful and very knowledgeable, he sends the order to the warehouse which is connected to the shop and in a very short period of time your beers are brought out to you.

This place is clearly set up as a webshop (I'll review that later) but this does work and the staff are great, so it is worth popping by if you are close by. Btw the choice was excellent, clearly a lot of Dutch beers but also an impressive range of Scandinavian, and UK beers, not sure if there were many American beers, I really wasn't seeking these out, prices were fair. I think that they carry something like 1,000 different beers.

Can picked up from Walther Mai, München and consumed at home Tuesday 30th December 2025 listening to Anna von Hausswolff - Iconoclasts and then watching Tales from The Loop on Amazon Prime. We had a superb Gorgonzola & Pancetta Mac' & Cheese for tea tonight. Pours murky very dark brown edging towards black, actually what am I saying it's practically black, there's a small beige head. Aroma is heavy on coffee, roasted malts and hints of bitter chocolate, flavour follows a similar trajectory with a light bitterness and hoppy streak. After a couple of very sweet and OTT Impys lately this brought things back to where they should be with this style, really good beer, lovely stuff. Score 8.1

Bottle picked up from Mr Hop webshop and consumed at home Monday 29th December 2025 listening to ByteFM, not sure what we're having for tea tonight, perhaps Pasta with Gorgonzola and Walnuts or maybe just cheese and crackers. Pours hazy mid gold with a mid sized white head. Fairly typical Belgian style beer, light spicy, soft mouthfeel, there is a little bit of vanilla, easy drinking for the 6.8% it's straightforward but v.decent.

Bottle (forgot where I picked it up from 🤔) had this Sunday 28th December 2025 after a lovely couple of days of mountain hikes and a short loop hike to our local Gasthof zum Sonnewald, Schofweg. We're cooking a Minced Beef and Cheese Pie, Onion Gravy, Sauteed Kale with Garlic and Pine Nuts, Tarragon Carrots, listening to Fins best of 2025. Pours dark brown edging towards black, light tan head. Smokey nose a little meaty, tangy, fruity and easy drinking, doesn't taste 6 %, straightforward smoked porter.

Can at Gasthof zum Sonnewald Schofweg after a short walk from home, it's a cold day. Having this sat at the bar Sunday 28th December 2025. Pours hazy dark gold/light amber with a white head. A nice refreshing slightly zippy, light refreshing and with a slight hoppiness, this is difficult to categorise apologies if this has been put in the wrong style, however the Untappd suggest of Strong Ale doesn't seem to fit. Light fruity nice mouthfeel, really nice.

Can day 13 of the advent beer calender that I curated for Loz. Consumed sat in Frank, Wohnmobilstellplatz Bodenmais, Saturday 27th December 2025 after a 16km Loop hike today from Bodenmais to Charmer Hütte, we had a cheese board, meats, crackers etc in Frank tonight, listening to Craig Charles Funk and Soul Show on 6Music. Pours black with a tan coloured head. Yes this is very sweet. Thick in the mouth, oily, chocolate and sweet roasty bitterness, the sweetness is flooding through every time. Okay there is a little tanginess but it's so sweet, so ridiculously sweet, there's lactose it's creamy. Okay I think that moving forward I am really going to have to vet these big Impy' stouts very carefully, there is nothing wrong with this but I cannot finish it, really think that I am not the target audience. Score 6.5

Can day 21 if the beer advent calendar that I curated for Loz. Consumed at home Friday 26th December 2025 Boxing Day, after an 11km Loop hike today from Zwiedlerwaldhaus to Großer Falkenstein, we had Kacchi Lamb Biryani from the Curry Guy book and Onion Bhajis and Poppadoms, listening to Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes. Another great beer that lets itself down by being far too sweet, thickness in the mouth, lots of chocolate. So appearance wise it is jet black, if there was a head it disappeared before I took notes. There's a little bit of nuttiness but I don't really understand this Dubai chocolate craze, in fact I have purposefully avoided anything to do with this until now. Is it just me or are modern imperial stouts becoming too sweet. Ok think this is pretty good but struggling with the sweetness. Score 7.0

Can day 24 beer of my Mr Hop advent beer calender, direct from Mr Hop webshop Venray Netherlands.and consumed at home Friday 26th December 2025 Boxing Day, after an 11km Loop hike today from Zwiedlerwaldhaus to Großer Falkenstein, we had Kacchi Lamb Biryani from the Curry Guy book and Onion Bhajis and Poppadoms, listening to Beirut - A Study of Losses. Pours black with a cappuccino coloured head. A touch too sweet but very pleasant, However a little bit heavy on the lactose. Fudge comes through, there's chocolate, milk chocolate, it's a smooth Impy' a fairly modest abv Impy', some ice cream, vanilla it's good, very good even but the lactose needs dialling down a tad. Score 7.6
