Olut Profile - Brewver

On the day I'm drinking this beer in history, in 1852, the US opened its '2nd Mint' in San Francisco - to serve the California gold rush. I didn't rush this golden ale, nothing too notable about it but a pleasant sessionable and very traditional tasting bottle conditioned brew. Low bitterness. Familiar English style hoppiness.

Sights & Swills Summer Holiday Beer#14. POOLE. Found at the Poole Arms on the harbour waterfront in the town. A really nice traditional venue with standing room only when I entered, but its five cask ales selection are all regulars'. A dark clear copper bitter infused with some nice caramels.

Sights & Swills Summer Holiday Beer#13. POOLE. Another quayside cask beer from Badger overlooking the second largest natural harbour in the world. Lighter golden session material. Easy texture with a gentle hoppiness and hints of a floral-sweetness.

Quayside pub that seems popular with locals despite its fine location on the tourist trail by the water. Next door to the former Wetherspoon, I believe that place will also soon become a Hall & Woodhouse concern like this one. As such Badger ales will dominate the waterside and four are available here on cask including a seasonal I opted for. There's some bottles in the fridges too behind the 'L' shapted central service area, including one that I had never encountered before from the brewer. Badger keg also available here. Seating is 360 degrees around the bar in the venue and a pleasant side garden compliments the larger front terrace. Has a pool table at the rear.

Sights & Swills Summer Holiday Beer#12. POOLE. Enjoyed in a pub overlooking the natural harbour on Poole's quayside. Golden with a head. Fairly traditional in design with a hop and malty-sweet balance.

Older quays building a block back from the water at the end of the commercial street in the town. Traditional but with big tables for dining throughout - with seating around three sides of a central front service area. There's a garden at the rear. This is a place to find Badger brews for the unfamiliar with them, so probably of more interest to the far away visitor to the town rather than a local. Cask and keg options available.
