Bottle from Raynville Superstore. It pours jet black with a medium fluffy khaki head. The aroma is rich and robust, dark roasted malt, umami, liquorice, burnt toast, dark chocolate, cacao nibs, meaty, espresso coffee, toasty spice, charred oak, dried fruits, black bun and toasted fruit cake. The taste is smooth, dark roasted malt, bitter - sweet dark chocolate, umami, liquorice, cacao nibs, natural processed coffee, toothy, burnt toast, muted ash, restrained alcohol presence, toasty spice and a puff of pipe tobacco. Finish is dark and decadent roast. Fulsome body, moderate carbonation and velvety mouth feel. Rich and robust. Nice depth of flavour and exquisite balance. Nicely done.

Can picked up at Pursuit of Hoppyness, Glasgow. It pours clear yellow - blonde with a medium, bubbly white head. The aroma is soft, fresh , clean, malt - focused, biscuit, sponge cake, muffin, bread, floral, grassy, herbal and a pleasing stone fruit character (apricot, peach & mango). The taste is crisp, dry, snappy, smooth bready malt, sponge cake, biscuit, toasty grains, leafy, grassy, muted herbal accents, dull mint, stone fruits, apricot, peach, permission and tangerine peel. Average body and moderate, fluffy carbonation. Well crafted, balanced and quaffable. Nicely done.

Cask at The Jolly Judge. It pours clear super dark brown with a thick, fluffy tan head. The aroma is toasty, rich maltage, malt loaf, fruit cake, earthy, twiggy, dried fruits and cacao nibs. The taste is dry, bitter, cacao nibs, coffee grounds, earthy, woody, malt loaf, dried fruits, raisin, fruit cake, malt loaf and some spice with a drying, toothy finish. Average body and moderate cask carbonation. Decent Scottish ale.

Keg at Jolly Judge. It pours clear deep brown with a dense khaki head. The aroma is earthy, woody, brown bread, leather, nuttiness and toasty spice. The taste is crisp, dry, snappy, toasty grains, brown bread, ryvita, cacao nibs, coffee, earth, leafy, nutty and leather with a drying finish. Average body and moderate, foamy carbonation. Nice ode to McEwan's.

Cask freebie from Jolly Judge. It pours clear brown with a thick, dense beige head. The aroma is earth, wood, cacao nibs, coffee grounds, earth and nut. The taste is drying, toothy, chewy, leafy, brown bread, wood, leather, tannin, twiggy, earthy and gravel with a drying finish. Average body and moderate cask carbonation. Nice condition, but rather twiggy.

Keg pint at Otherworld. It pours bright golden - yellow with as decent frothy white head. The aroma is soft, sweet, juicy, tangy, fruit salad, peach, mango, papaya, sherbet, candy, sherbet and good times. The taste is smooth, juicy, candy, bright, zingy, tangy, green, weedy, dank, orange peel, peach, papaya, tangerine, green, weedy and dank filth. Finish is dry and zesty. Quenching.

Cask pint! At their taproom. It pours clear reddish - amber with a thick, fluffy white head. The aroma is soft, sticky, oily, resinous, woody, sticky pine, caramel, green, weedy and dankness. The taste is dry, yet soft, oily, chewy, green, weedy, dank, resin, leather, brown bread, leather, pine needles, nip of booze, burnt caramel and muted booze with a drying, bitter, sappy finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Solid cask westy. Not a huge amount of depth, it solid nonetheless.

Keg at Otherworld Taproom. The aroma is fresh, bright, zingy, juicy, ripe tropical fruits, peach, apricot, orange creamsicle, green, weedy, dank, bong rips and good times. The taste is smooth, juicy, bitter - sweet, creamy, orange creamsicle, mango sorbet, candied orange peel, green, weedy, dank, bong rips, peach and candy with a smooth finish.. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Errs on the touch of sweet, but it's enjoyable nonetheless.
