Dark brown color, no foam. Wood and whisky aroma. Complex. Slightly sweet flavor with wood and whisky or bourbon taste. Not much coffee for a stout. Smooth sipping beer.

I got this in a trade with joe1510. Thanks Joe!

This pours a very dark brown with reddish highlights and about a 1 finger head of tannish foam. Average head retention but it does have some nice lacing.

The smell is dominated by caramel malt but I also get some roasted malt, vanilla, and wood. Pretty nice nose.

The taste has notes of caramel and roasted malt, toffee, a real oaky flavour, and a bit of dark fruit but mostly caramel and toffee and it's hitting my taste buds nicely. Oh, now I'm noticing a bit of vanilla; it's stronger in the smell than in the taste.

The body is thinner than I expected though it is quite creamy, carbonation is on the low side, and the abv is hidden pretty well.

Because of it's smoothness, I find it quite drinkable.. a very nice American Strong Ale indeed. I'd drink it again.

Pours a dark, dark brown with brown-red edges and gives up a moderate tan head with plenty of lace. Nose is bourbon and chocolate with hints of oak. Falls on the sweet side of imperial stouts, strong veins of milk chocolate backed up by black cherry, molasses, anise, and raisin, leading to a bourbon-soaked back end that mixes bitter cocoa, vanilla, and plenty of wood. The booze and fruitiness grow a bit cloy as the pint warms, though, and the bitterness becomes almost medicinal in its lingering presence. Texture's thin and fizzy for an impy stout, but the alcohol is almost completely hidden so we'll let the weak body slide. Not bad, but ultimately too sweet for me, without much complexity beyond the bourbon and chocolate.

Bomber from the Hwy 2 road trip. Aroma is chocolate, wood, mint, licorice, earth, raisin, vanilla. Pours black with a thin tan head. Taste is sweet and woody, with flavors matching the aroma; bourbon is noticeable. Too much oak influence in both aroma and flavor for me to really get into this. 7,4,7,4,14=3.6

Re-rate 5 years after initial rating. Not sure what happened, but there’s hardly any wood or bourbon influence now. Taste isn’t harsh at all. Very mellow, good tasting stout. ABV hidden well. 7,4,8,4,17=4.0
