Passchendaele is een blond bier van hoge gisting met een laag alcoholgehalte. Het bier dankt zijn pittige afdronk aan een mengeling van geselecteerde Belgische hop.
Passchendaele werd gelanceerd naar aanleiding van de 100e verjaardag van de Eerste Wereldoorlog en meer specifiek ter herdenking van de Slag bij Passendale in juli 1917. De brouwerij vraagt per flesje een minuut stilte ter nagedachtenis aan de gesneuvelden tijdens de Grote Oorlog. Een deel van de opbrengst wordt aan de gemeente Zonnebeke geschonken, om bij te dragen aan het onderhoud van haar oorlogsmonumenten

Bottled 500ml. -from Svijet Piva Zagreb. Yellow/golden coloured, small to medium sized white head, mild hoppy nose. Moderate malty, slight yeasty and grassy with dry hoppy finish. Just ordinary.

Draft at 2Be in Brugge on 1st Feb 2014. Pours lager like, golden with a white head. I was disappointed with this to be honest, not much going on in either the nose or taste. There are hints of flavour, traces of malty semi-sweetness and a hop undertone but this came across as bland. Refreshing enough, but so is water if you’re thirsty. There certainly wasn’t any ’spicy aftertaste’ as advertised.

50cl bottle BB 18/09/2014. Brewed in memory .... or surfing the 1914-18 wave with a bottle size clearly aimed at the numerous Brits who will come to Belgium in 2014 for the 100th anniversary. I am just disappointed that nothing about the beer shows any proceeds going toward a local monument or keeping some form of memory alive. De couleur dorée, col blanc cassé crémeux. Arôme est assez unidimensionnel avec un bouquet noble euro, fleuri et citronné léger. Malts cara pils typique. Note de grains. Palais garde un profil très pils avec un léger côté fleurie t fruité qui donnent une fin de bouche métallique. Palais est sec-crisp avec une fine note mielleuse en toute fin de bouche, léger grains. On reste ici sur une bière légère facile à boire, digne de grosses productions européennes, vraiment sans plus. On retrouve des houblons très nobles qui donnent très peu en terme de profil et de complexité.

At horeca 13 Pours very clear blonde , good white head Smells rather malty Tastes like very dry malts Very borning .
Rerate anno 2020. Bottle currently sampled expires in about a month, but doesn't show much negative age factors. It has a subtile hoppy touch, that balances out the rather sweet taste. A mild bitterness is present as well. Refined as far a simple Belgian Blonde's go. not to much emphasis on the yeast character, here. Medium thin body, medium carbo. Nice enough to finish, but not particularly great. Better than I remember it to be, or what the original score said (6.5/10) . Would now rate it 7.1/7.2 out of 10. Merging the score's to 6.8 for now.
Perhaps the recipe has evolved, or it's simply the moment of tasting.

Draft at Klooster, Delft. Pours clear golden with a white head. Aroma of Massive Belgian yeast, malt, light fruits and some caramel. Flavour is light moderate sweet and bitter, spice coming out in the palate. Light medium bodied with light carbonation.

Bottle 500ml. @ [ pre-TSODRBSG13 ], Ulfborg.Clear medium yellow colour with a small to average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, white head. Aroma is moderate malty, fruity, pale malt, earthy, vegetables. Flavour is moderate sweet and light to moderate bitter with a average to long duration, herbs - vegetables, fruity. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20130830]
