Following the substantial demand for “wittekes” or white beer in the mid-Eighties, we decided to develop our own version of this beer style. We use regional hops from Poperinge, as well as ungerminated wheat and several herbs for the specific identity of this cloudy beer.

25cl bottle from Vanuxeem. Very thin taste for a wit, cloudy light yellow appearance with cat piss aroma. Slight white wine with some limited spices and a distinct lager taste. Very disappointing. Have a feeling this might have a fresher, fuller taste direct from the brewery.

Bottle, 250ml for 273 yen from Ohtsuki at 5%. A cloudy straw gold color with an orange & coriander aroma. The taste is classic witbier, sweet & spicy-orange & spices. Not all that complex but a solid white beer at a great price.

25 cl. bottle @ Kulminator. BBF 08/2010 – so maybe 2008 Vintage? Don’t think that this should have been aged but that I maybe just me. Although the reviews below me describe taste about as “pleasant” if not worse than what I had. Pours the clearest and brightest apple golden beer I have ever seen, bubbles rising, okay touch fake looking creamy white head. Nose is sweet in lemonade kind of way, artificial sweetener, apple, light coriander and children’s vitamins + Dafalgan. Taste is artificial sweetener, coriander, Dafalgan, sweet citrus, aspirin, children’s vitamins, apple lemonade, watery coriander in the back. Very effervescent – yeah. Not too terrible but very chemical & bit like taking your vitamins.

250ml bottle from Drinkswell, Ripon. Hazy pale yellow colour, thin creamy white head and aroma of yeast, lemon & banana. Light watery mouthfeel, taste of malt & wheat, some yeast. Initial sweetness followed by sour notes, through to a spicy dry citrus finish. Fizzy high carbonation level. Quite OK.

Strong sent of Belgian yeast and a touch of spice, not a lot of weight behind it. The appearance is a golden yellow. Taste is verging on bland, a bit of pepper and spice, slight banana. Mouthfeel was dreadful, very thin and watery. A poor effort.

25cl bottle from La Maison Belge, Puerto de la Cruz. Pours hazy pale yellow with a white head. Aroma of Belgian yeast, citrus, spices and wheat. Sweet with a light sourness and a slightly dry, citric and spicy finish. Light and refreshing. Quite nice wit. Refreshing and easy to drink.(2013-01-05)

Bottle from Tomlinson’s, Inverness 071212
Light lemon white, hazy, big frothy white head, good lacing
Aroma - soft lemon, some orange, sugars, touch of an aromatic floral note, some fruity creaminess, good aroma
Taste - light lemon and orange, soft spices, light wheat, soft creamy floral, light flavour, fairly thin on flavour. The flavour is less intense than the nose.
Palate - medium carb, light body, creamy texture. Finish is rather dry.
Overall - The flavour here is a bit too subtle - so overall it comes across as fairly bland

250ml bottle. Pours a hazy light gold with a medium head. Aroma is mostly coriander with a little wheat. Taste has a lot if coriander. Not that complex, some wheat also but full in the mouth and easy to drink.
