With Robert The Great we refer to Lord of Liddesdale, Robert I, popularly known as Robert the Bruce, was king of Scotland from 1306 until his death in 1329. Robert I was one of the most famous warriors of his generation, eventually leading Scotland during the First War of Scottish Independence against England. He fought successfully during his reign to regain Scotland’s place as an independent country and today is revered in Scotland as a national hero. This naughty one does what Robert once did, conquering a place of independence in the wild jungle of globalization.

33cl Fles van Bierwinkel Alkmaar. Zwart, beige kraag.

Dark brown to near black with a ring tan head. Aroma of bubblegum, candy, roast, dark chocolate, port notes, overripe dark fruits, booze and toffee. Flavour is heavy sweet and moderate to heavy bitter. Full bodied with alcohol warmth and soft carbonation.

Taster at gfs place, courtesy of Sander, big thanks. dark brown color, small coffee colored head. smells marzipan, earthy, some figs, toffee, raisins, light soy sauce, oxidation, subtle sherry, subtle cherries. nice smell. full body, light carbonation. tastes of sherry, soy sauce, raisins, figs, toffee, nutty, light cola. finishes subtly boozy with notes of sherry, soy sauce and some toffee. classic belgian stout, bit heavy on the raisins and also a bit oxidized, decent but not the greatest.

330ml bottle from Sophie's Beer Store, drunk at home. Dark brown, opaque with a thick rung of khaki head. Liquorrice is strong in the aroma, with black grape and roasted malt. Sweet, sweet taste, lots of liquorice root, some medicinal notes. The long finish is considerably more bitter, leading to light astringency in the aftertaste. Thick body with medium carbonation. Delicious.

Bottle from the brewery and drunk at home. Black beer lasting tan head. a rather tasty imperial stout. lots of malt. like a string scotch ale. malty rather than chocolate and coffee. hides abv well. yes there is fullness to it but no idea its 10.5% some oilyness to the mouthfeel . Decent strong malty beer. some fruit cake character.

In bocca è dolce all'attacco, con chiusura amara caffettosa. Corpo pieno, carbonazione media. Molto buona.
