From tap at In De Wildeman, Amsterdam, Carnivale Brettanomyces 2016. Aroma is tart cherries, dark chocolate, tart fruits, oak, vanilla, touch of Bourbon, a bit bretty, chocolate-cherry cake. Flavour is tartish with a touch of sourness, finishes nicely dry. Body is a bit above medium. Rich and tart fruity chocolate oaky ’wild stout’. I savoured every sip I took of this wonderful beer.

Bottle. Cotteridge. Clear, dark cola brown. Thin and dense, lasting, lacing, pale tan head. Full marks for looks. Nose has Cherry B. Black cherry ice cream. Some wood. Some earth. Hint of brett. Hint of bourbon. Light roast coffee bean. Nice balance of twangy cherry and sweet brett. Taste is sour and dark chocolate sweet. Beer of contrasts, here. Smooth and easy drinking. Soft, foamy carbonation. Finishes up earthy, woody, tangy cherry sour. Loads happening. Great beer, and I wish I’d got another.

Bottle at L42, thanks to Kenny. It pours jet black with a thick tan head. The aroma is soft, sweet, sticky, little bit funky, Bakewell tart, juicy cherry, vanilla, treacle and chocolate cake. The taste is slick, rich roasted malt, toasty, jammy, cherry, fruit compote, earthy funk, vanilla, dull spice and light toffee with a slick, fruity finish. Full body and moderate carbonation. Juicy, fruity and bit funky. Good fun.

Level 42 Bottleshare. Almost opaque dark brown beer, small tan head. Palate is smooth and semi dry, reasonable fine carbonation. Soft and mellow dark malts. Mild bretty bitterness. Trace of cherry led fruits. Light touches of dark chocolate and dark malt cream. Smooth finish. Hides the abv well but other than than it’s a bit recessed and lacking in boldness.

Bottle shared in London / big thanks to Kenny! Pours deep brown with a small, creamy tan head. The nose has some old leather, dried berries, aged wood. Light sweet flavour, a little tangy, with more old wood, dried berries, earth. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Warming finish, quite dry, with more old leather, dried berries, wood. Pretty drinkable given the ABV, and certainly interesting.

75cl bottle between four of us at the 25th Oct 2016 Shrewsbury Beer Share:cheers Paolo for this one. Poured dark brown, tanned head. Aroma was of over roasted malts and semi-sour cherries. The taste was less roasted’ malts, more chocolatey with cherries and more sweet than the nose intimated. A trace of Bourbon helps to balance the pleasant alcoholic brew.
