This example of the Belgian Farmhouse Ale style began as a final project recipe created by one of Glenn Castelein's brewing students, William Roelens, who named it after his grandson Mauro, who lives in the town of Lauwe. The Alvinne brewers were so impressed by this beer that they added it to their lineup with Roelens' permission.

Bottle 33cl. @ home.Clear light to medium orange color with a large, frothy, good lacing, fully lasting, off-white to white head. Aroma is spicy, yeasty, saison alike, moderate to light heavy citrus shell. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, peppery sharp, and some rubber notes. Body is medium, texture is watery to oily, carbonation is soft. The aroma is well balanced, flavor is a bit sharp and wiry (out of balance). [20081220]

Bottle: Poured a deep cloudy color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and good lacing. Aroma consists of orange crush with some candy-like feature and some fruity ester with a lightly hopped finish. This has to be one of the most interesting and unique aroma from beers I tasted in recent month. Taste is also a weird mix between some fruity ester with some notes of floral malt and candy-like notes. Full body with limited filtration with some great carbonation. I must admit to being quite impressed with this one and wouldn’t mind having again.

Cloudy yellow and thick. Sweet and kind of sour. Some yeast, but not really the barnyard character. Some fruit, and spice. I like this quite a bit. Purchased in Belgium, March 2007 and aged 1 year.

Bottled, alc. 7 % (BB 06/2009)
Hazy yellow color, good cloudy white head. Strange herbal aroma: gingseng, wet straw and smoke. Crisp. Flavor is also herbal with grassy sticky hoppyness. Quite bitter and alcoholic - not bitter in the way saisons usually are. Straw-like hoppyness in the aftertaste. Not really my kind of beer.

Bottle, 7%. Quite yeasty aroma, but nice like freshly-baked bread. Cloudy orange colour, small white head. The flavour starts off very nice with a refreshing citric fruitiness and good mouthfeel. The finish is a little less interesting and with some rough malt notes. But a quite OK beer.

Bottle: Poures a murky hazy yellow with tons of floaters and carbonation, bubbled up and formed a foamy white head. Aroma is very spicy. Bitter fruit with loads of spice, the finish is almost metallic with some hop.

Bottled (Thanks Rastacouere!). Orange colour, huge white head. Aroma is yeasty, fruity, malty and slightly earthy. Flavour is fruits, yeast, spices and earth. Quite sweet earthy. Not very saisonic in my opinion. Also has lots of juniper as it warmed up a bit.

Bottle at Reading BF 2007. Hazy copper with lasting off white head. Bit syrupy, bit estery, bit of bubblegum and Belgian yeast. I had this down as 7%. Also I think this brewery should make a beer called Stardust in memory of the great 70s glam rock musician Alvin Stardust. 3.1 Re-rate Twickenham Brewery tasting 08. Excellent hoppy yeasty saison. That’s pretty lovely.

Fruchtiger Geruch, etwas süßlich-hefig, bananige Note. Test vom 4.3.2007, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 9,9,9,10,-,9 - 9,15
