A clear red beer with a yellow or orange head. The aroma is sweet hoppy with notes of oranges and alcohol. The flavor is rather sweet with a lot of hops, oranges, and caramel. The hops burns your palate because it is extremely hoppy. A great beer for me - but only for hop lovers.

I really liked this beer for taste reasons that I find hard to put into words.+++Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer pours a nut brown color with a small tan head. There is a sour aroma with some wheat noticeable but it was a bit muddled. The flavor is sour, malty, and fruity with a light vinegar bitterness on the finish. Very Belgian in character. Interesting.

A decent lager but still not one that I gravitate too very often. +++ Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer pours a light golden color with only a trace of a white head. There is a strong typical lager scent with just a hint of fruit. The flavor is malty and lightly fruity. There is a slight malty aftertaste. If one were to judge on the color and aroma one might just pass this beer by. But the flavor really is quite good for this style of beer.

Black color; generous brownish head. Wonderful aroma, perfectly mixing the roasted malts, cream, hops, yeast, roasted nuts, cookies, cardboard. Powerful body, but the mouthfeel is cut by the presence of heavily roasted malts; very strong flavor of roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate, a bit peppery; even in this shrine of roastiness the hops manage to be noticed; there is also some liquorice, light tar, minimal alcohol perception, bitter oranges tongue pricking; moderate sugar. Strong bitterness in the end, with the powerful coffee and roasted malt in evidence but not excessive. Lovely.

Black color; generous, frothy head. It has a nice aroma of hops and black malt; light soap and cheese too; dust and pepper. Strong body and strong flavor; roasted malt, mainly, with pure chocolate, and a lot of hops. Always a beautiful brew.

Black color; big creamy, beige head. Mild aroma of roasted malt, hops, a bit cheesy, very light alcohol and wet cardboard; not strong but quite articulated. Good body strength, smooth mouthfeel, with an immediate alcohol kick; good mix of chocolate flavor, roasted malt and caramel; strong bitterness, both from hops and the roasted malt. Very powerful beer, but well balanced, and with some complex edge; excellent.

Dark brown color. Very interesting aroma (not explosive), very good mix of liquorice, malt, caramel, roasted malt, hop. Similar taste, powerful but IMO also harmonious. Strong final. Thanks Philippe (Bov) for sharing this bottle.

dark black beer with a THICK deep moka head which stays on forever. Lots of pacific hops with a bit of vanilla (would think this is an IPA). Wonderful sweet choclate with hops married together, roasted, alcool warmth copmes out clearly but not overbearing, almost fruity at times, very complex and excellent body.

What a great beer to celebrate my 1.500th rating. Thanks to Jeppe (BierKönig) for sharing this one with me. It pours black and has a fine brown head. The aroma is sweet with notes of smoke and coffee. And the flavor is sweet too with notes of smoke and coffee before the sweetness gives way to a great bitter end. A fantastic flavor in a fantastic beer with a great body. This is the best beer I've tasted so far - and comes very close to 5.0.

I have been in love with this beer for some time now. As I have it more and more it becomes my beer of choice for I find it satisfying no matter what mood I am in. My beer fridge now never goes with out some of this fine beer. +++ Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle with a funky label, this beer pours a dark golden color with a medium sized white head that quickly dissipates. It is cloudy and has floaters. Sweet and spicy scent. There is a light nutty flavor and a spicy aftertaste. The front end flavor is very strong and has a nice fruity element - almost pear and apricot. . This is a very nice American tripel. A true classic! Redone 8/2007 - the more recent batches of this beer have slipped in quality. There is more of a tangy off flavor and the alcohol has become more noticable. This used to be a 5.0 beer for me but has slipped in my esteem.

This is a fine beer. Nice fruity aroma with bananas and cloves. Hazy red brown in colour. Thinish but pleasant notes of bananas and cloves come out to make the palate happy.
