Description
Williams Bros Brewing Company is a Scottish family-owned microbrewery, founded and operated by brothers Bruce and Scot Williams.
The Williams Bros. Brewing Co. started life in the humble ‘Glenbrew’ homebrew shop in Glasgow. The first beer brewed was the ‘Fraoch’ Heather Ale at a small 5-barrel brewery in Taynuilt, After the 2nd year of brewing in the Taynuilt brewery and with demand far out stripping supply the brothers decided to expand and also to diversify the range with five Historic Ales. These ales were produced at the new purpose built brewery and premises in Craigmill, Strathaven from 1998-2004.
In 2004 the brothers took over the ‘Forth Brewery’ at Kellibank, Alloa where Maclay’s had been contract brewing and packaging their beers since the sale of their old Alloa brewery. It was at this stage in proceedings that Heather Ale Ltd became Williams Bros. Brewing Co.

Poured a deep black with a whispy whtie head, much like a porter. Had a salty, sea like smell, almost scotch whiskey like with just a hint of whiskey like fruit. Flavor has more roasted malt than I anticipated. Chocolate, grainy, malty, very nutty flavor. Finish is slightly oily and the nutty flavor stays on the palate.

Poured a clear, grapefruit like color with a thin, whispy white head. Interesting and unique floral aroma a little like incense. Initial flavor is malty, sweet but also a tad soapy. Finish was watery and sweet with floral notes and honey. Pleasant and refreshing for the most part.

Poured a straw yellow with rosey hues with a slight clumping white head. Sweet, floral, fruity aroma. I don’t usually enjoy these types of beers but I enjoyed the flavor very much. Very subtle and fruity with notes of grapes and honey. Slightly watery on the palate. Far from outstanding but entirely drinkable.

330ml bottle, now to be found at Vinmonopolet in Norway. Roasted malt is the central hallmark of this ale. Pitch black in colour. Small, brownish foam. Burnt grainy aroma. Roasted flavour of dark malts with blend of chocolate and coffee. I’m not familiar with the taste of elderberry, but it might well be the dark berries that appears discreet in the background. Yeasty and bittersweet end. Smooth and rather crispated (04.11.2006).
