Tap at Barcade - probably the most spicy belgian-style I’ve ever had (which is saying a lot) - the nose is all grass, coriander, grains of paradise, white pepper (it’s almost overwhelming) - the flavor is the same, but there is just enough lemon zest and mildly sweet malt to keep the spices from getting out of control - pretty nice beer.

Pours light gold into a shaker. Quickly disipating head leaves slight lacing. Citrus, grass and juicyfruit notes. Thickand flat with an upfront sweet palate that changes to a long-lasting slightly bitter finish.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Pours a beautiful, clear, dark amber with a small, off-white head. Spicy aroma. Rather light body with a vague, underlying caramelish sweetness. Dominated by some rather exotic flavour impressions, I reckon it’s the pumpkins - a vegetable I have absolutely no experience with. But also a rather refined spicing is prominent - it actually reminds me of Christmas: cardamom, cinnamon and ginger. Dry rather than hoppy finish. Unusual. 060306

On draught at Winking Lizard in Columbus. Pours flat black with a medium and foamy beige head that disappears pretty fast. Thin sheets of lacing. Aroma of malt, coffee and some chocolate. Fairly rich mouthfeel and nicely creamy, with coffee, bittersweet chocolate and hops flavor. A bit of roasted malt in the background as well. The finish is smooth and creamy and has a lingering coffee bitterness. Examples like this or GLBC Wolfhound remind me that this style doesn’t have to be boring. Well done.

Some warming from the alcohol.8/5/8/5/17=4.3ReratesSampeld the three versions 09-10, 08-09, 07-08 against each other on November 9, 2012.The 09-10 version felt the best for me, the "roundest" most drinkable, smoothest one. The 08-09 was the worst right now of the three, being rather harsh and focusing a lot on the alcohol. The 07-08 was OK, the middle of these ones at this age. Judging from this experiment I guess I like the ones aged about 3 years well more than older ones.
