On tap at B.J.’s Portland, sampled 6 August 2004. Standard fare across the board- clear copper red body, thin creamy off-white head, grapefruity, bitter, piney aroma, and the subsequent intense grapefruit citrus flavor enhanced by pine and a touch of sweet malt. Not much balance, so this beer tastes like any other beer that uses the same quantity and variety of hops.

On tap at B.J.’s Portland (yes, the Lloyd Center location), sampled 6 August 2004. Lasto’s Oatmeal Stout. Deep brown body, thin light tan head. Dry roasted malt aroma took a bit to develop as the beer was served too cold. Enjoyable, rich flavor profile not as thick as Bell’s Kalamazoo Stout but extracting the same rich roast complexity, almost bordering on woodiness. Dry chocolate complements the rich roast. Smooth, full finish. No real sweetness for a "Sweet" Stout. Creamy. Call me a fool but this is one of the best in the category.

On tap at B.J.’s Portland, sampled 2 August 2004. Deep chestnut-brown body, medium tan head. Dry roasted malt aroma. Flavor of baker’s chocolate, dry roast (toast), and some bitter highlights. Fairly average.

On tap at B.J.’s Portland, sampled 2 August 2004. Deep red body with a thin, dissipating light cream head. Metallic bitter hops aroma. Fruity and quite caramely flavor, toasty, and quite complex (lots of bread), with light piney hops complementing the malts. Somewhat tart. Earthy/musty and medium-bodied. Decent.

On tap at B.J.’s Portland, sampled 2 August 2004. Deep chestnut brown body (though not entirely opaque) with a medium creamy light tan head that left nice lacing. Chocolate, coffee, and dark fruit aroma. Flavor began on a nice note with chocolate, dark fruit, coffee, plenty of toast and a touch of caramel. Then it faded into an odd, thin metallic bitter hops finish that seemed out-of-place. Medium-thick bodied. Overall a solid IS, but that metallic finish needs to go!

I don't know if it's always done in whiskey casks, but I had a version that was and it was overdone.

Boulder
Bright gold. Lemon-tangerine aroma with hints of pale malt. The flavour starts malty - a little muddled but there are bright tangerine and apricot hop notes. Moderate bitterness. Pretty middle of the road.
