Bottle 35,5 cl. Courtesy of gn0sis. Pours a clear deep golden with a small off-white head. The nose has a little caramels and phenols. Fairly light body, high carbonation, caramel and a yeasty, chemical tang. Ends dry and slightly metallic. No real pleasure I’m afraid. 150311

Bottle from Wine & Cheese in Clayton, MO. Pours very dark copper with a slight beige head. Aromas of toasty malt and a little floral/citrus hop. Med body. Flavor is rather a mix of citrus and floral over a decent caramel background. Seems a bit more flavorful than many IPAs.

12 ounce bottle from State Line. Pours a dark copper color with a medium sized offwhite head. Decent head retention and lacing. Nice herbal, earthy, floral and citrus hop aroma with some caramel malts. The taste is big citrus hop notes. Pale malty notes in the background, including some caramel. Medium bodied. Well balanced. Nice beer.

On tap. Poured a hazy brownish amber with a thick white head that laced thickly and lasted throughout the beer. Aroma was full of malts with biscuit, caramel, hay and bread coming through with a hint of fruit. Flavor was similarly malty with lots of biscuits and bread with a bit of caramel sweetness to round out the beer.

Have had this from the bottle and on draught and the draught was much better, I thought. Kind of a muted porter but with a more noticeable fruity flavor. Light roasted malts, medium fruit, a hint of chocolate, and a nice finishing sourness. Wouldn’t have guessed it’s 7%. Could go a few rounds with this one.

Bottle from Wine & Cheese in Clayton, MO. Pours very dark brown with a slight light tan head. I can get garnet, if I hold it against a strong light. Smells a little bit of wet dog (not kidding) and raisiny dark fruit. 2nd inhale elimd the dog. 3rd inhale suggests chocolate. Full bodied. Dark roast malt, and some chocolate/raisin. This one’s good for watchin a movie. It’s fairly well balanced, but tilting towards bitter. Nice ale. Been hoping for this one for several years.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Buy Rite - Jersey City, 1/22/11

Aroma: The nose is fairly herbal, citrus hops, a little soap, and some earthy notes
Appearance: It pours a cloudy caramel-amber color with a small white head and some lace
Flavor: The taste is also rather herbal, fairly bland, but with a strongly soapy finish
Palate: The mouthfeel is a bit sticky, lively carbonation, and a slightly unpleasant finish
Overall Impression: This wasn't my favorite beer. There is something about this one that just leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth (pun intended). It just wasn't very good. This one could use some work. I'll leave it at that.

Bottle from Wine & Cheese in Clayton, MO. Pours dark rudy amber with a slight beige head. Aroma is malt and a not so grassy noble hop. Where did that come from? Med plus body. Flavor is heading towards sticky malt of a pretty roasted kind - no quite sticky tho. Low level of hop. Really seems to be balanced. Drinks pretty good.

Pours a clear medium brown - an interesting take on the style - has the smoothness and sweet malt character you expect from the style, but with a few tweeks here and there - the first comes in the form of a bit of tartness in the aroma, which compliments the more traditional notes of raisin and caramel fairly well - a bit of floral notes as well - the more I smell it, the more inviting it becomes - smooth, creamy body - medium sweet and toasty - the second surprise comes in the form of a moderate warming spiciness on the tail end, which arrives at the same time as a mild acidity, both of which serve to cut the sweetness - very understated - everything in the flavor is subtle but balanced - very understated - a bit flawed in the finish, with a too strong hop bitterness, but otherwise nice.
