About
We started brewing in Burton-Upon-Trent in 1834. Then in 1898 we got itchy feet. So we moved down the road to the Albion brewery. We still like it so we’ve not moved again since.

We came to Burton for the water. Well, for the rocks the town was built on to be precise. The water trickles down through a thick layer of gypsum before we bring it back up again through our well. That’s what gives our beers the depth of flavour, character and crisp refreshing bitterness that you won’t find anywhere else in the world.

500ml bottle from Morrisons. Orange copper colour with thin white head. Strong caramel and orange aroma with some sulphur. Malts are reasonably juicy with sharp hop finish. One of the best Marston bottled beers, touch of spice too

Hazy golden, low head. Subtle hop and fruit aroma. Solid fruity base, slighly yeasty - bottom of cask - and hints of aromatic hops. Flat of course ;-)

Cask @ Charlie’s Bar. Dark red colour. Malty aroma with hints of molasses and some fruitiness. Flavor is very malty and hints of caramel and dark fruits. The alcohol leaves you with a warming feeling. The finish is a little sweet.

(Bottle 50 cl) Very pretty, deep golden colour with a small, creamy head. Rather light in body with hints of caramel and a discreet sweetness. Quaffable, easy drinking. Brewed only with Golden Promise malts - hence the "single" tag. A malt also once favoured by Scottish whisky distillers. 180701

Bottle. I have not changed my scores, as the new sample is of an old bottle, BB-date 990311. My scores for this old bottle would be 6-5-6-4-15-3.6. I found it by accident in my cellar, and this is the "norwegian" version, bottled by Aass in the late 90’s. Clear, black with a small brown head, no carbonation. Rounded aromas of sweet, roasted malts. Sour-sweet, bitter flavors with coffee, chokolate and a hint of cellar. Medium body. This seven year old beer with a quite low ABV stored well, and matured in a mostly pleasant way. (060113)[br][br]On tap at Christian Firtal, Odense, Denmark. A black stout with a small tan head. Mild flavors of roasted malt and coffee. Medium-bodied and drinkable. (051028)
