Pours dark, almost black-brown. Aroma is at first not too telling, sweet caramel, burnt sugar, maybe a bit of bourbon. Subtle and getting better when the beer warms a bit. Taste really feels as this is barrel-aged in some bourbon barrels. I cannot see any description confirming it but this one feels really tasty. Didn’t really expect that from Hideji. They do good enough beers but this is really delicious. Bit sweet, bit sticky, loads of whiskey-bourbon, vanilla. Not sure where I should get those chestnut flavours but overall, really well made beer and a big surprise for me from Hideji. Thumbs up!

Old rating. On tap at Ushitora. Dark brown with almost no head. Strong dark roasted coffee aromas. A bit of roasted malt. Taste is all coffee. The body is quite light which makes it easy to drink and refreshing in an iced coffee sort of way. Pretty straight-forward but one-dimensional. --- Beer merged from original tick of Coffee Lager on 13 Jul 2015 at 21:06 - Score: 7

Lightly filtered showing a lemonade yellow The nose shows a very dry kinkan flavors akin to dry fruit. The palate is extremely kinkan forward as it resembles more of a juice than a beer. There’s practically no bitterness in this one, but given it is a lager and meant to be light and refreshing, the extreme fruit forwardness works well and quite nice to be nice to being a summer session.

Bottle in Hongkong. Fresh sourish nose. The beer starts fresh with hints of lemon, bitter mainpart, fresh, easy to drink. Nice bitter lemon aftertaste, hints of yeast, smooth, fresh, not bad.

On tap at Takumiya. A light gold with a wisp of foam. Chewy light malts with musty grapefruit in the nose. The taste is bittersweet grapefruit & grainy crackery malts. Quite tasty.

Tap at Molto. Lightly fruity nose, lemon, restrained. Golden color, clear, fine head. Light and grassy flavor, not very sweet or malty, but crisp and nicely bitter. High drinkability.

On tap at Bungalow. Hideji Hana no White Weiss Belgian Wit 4.5% a cloudy light gold with a foamy bright white head. Fruity cloves and wheat aroma. The taste is bang on spicy Weizen. More Weizen than witbier as I don’t get much citrus peel from it, perhaps a touch of lemon. Frikin’ delicious with a soft mouthfeel though. Cloves/cinnamon goodness. The best Hideji beer I’ve had by far.

Small sample from tap. Poured dark brown, bit of white foam. Aroma was quite lenient, some roast malts. Taste was quite enjoyable actually, dunkel is not my favourite style but this one had nice roastiness and quite fulfilling medium body, soft and fulfilling. Nicely brewed.

Small sample from 330 ml bottle. Pours golden, clear, a bit of white foam. Aroma has ginger, sweet, sort of like ginger lemonade. Carbonation is high and you can feel it in the taste. Strong ginger sensation, maybe a bit of honey but losing to ginger, highly carbonated, so feels like ginger champagne. Not that bad but by far not the best ginger beer out there.

35,5 cl bottle @ VastActiv, BBE 05.05.2014Thanks mjs & baggio!
Aroma soy sauce, some licorice and a feeling of starchy malt I usually sense in bad pale lagers. Flavour has starchy malt, licorice and some ash. Feels rather watery, which is quite an achievement for a 7% stout.
