Bottle. Good malty aroma, a little weak, perhaps. Seemingly hazy dark brown colour. Good stable light brown head. The flavour is nicely malty, has some alcohol. Quite roasted, like a good imperial brown ale.

22oz bottle. Small head fades quickly, nice tan color. Beer is a dark but clear brown. Aroma is sweet smoke, present but nothing special. The smoke is also a bit slick. Flavor is still all smoke with some residual sugars, which work well enough with the smoked structure of the beer. Nice sweetness sits in the back of the throat. Good stuff but too one-dimensional without it being a spectacular dimension.

22oz bottle pours a hazy, translucent copper brown with a thin, white head. Big, smokey aroma, smells like bacon, light malt, smells like a wet campfire. Flavor is bitter, hoppy, spicy, pepper, malty, caramel, light smoke. Finish is full bodied with a lasting smokiness.

2009 Release: Hazy copper/bronze coloured body with a thinnish tan head, ruby tint and a nice bit of small bubbles coming from the sides of the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, alcohol, pit fruits, raisins and some major toffee. Medium-bodied; Strong assertive malty and toffee taste at first with some nuts, alcohol and a bitter tobacco finish. Aftertaste shows a lot of character, with the malt coming through most, followed by some alcohol and a touch of raisins. Overall, a decent beer - perhaps a bit too nutty and malty, but not a bad beer. Good for a holiday beer - different than most, so that’s very welcome. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Liquor Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey on 14-March-2010, sampled at home in Washington on 04-April-2010.

A reddish brown ale with a thin off white head. In aroma, alcohol, light caramel, hops, and more hops. In mouth, stringent hops fight against the herbs and spices, overpowering, not bad, but over the top offering. On tap at American Flat Bread, Jan. 11 2010.
