22 Oct 2012 saw me, my wife and 26 other members of the CAMRA Investors club have a wonderful afternoon as guests of the brewery: after a film show and giuded tour of the brewery we adjourned to the tasting celler bar where we were given seven different brews to taste: I had plenty of each! My glasses were filled from a variety of 33cl bottles the brewery has laid down for us from last spring: thanks brewery. Copper to old gold and dull orange in colour: the head varied in size depending on who poured the beer! Semi-sweet malts fill the nose: some fruit notes also. The taste was fairly sweet as well, caramel with nuts and fruit. This is a top fermenting beer and I could detect some yeast within the flavours as I tried to order another one from the free bar. The day was getting better as the beer strengths began to climb and I began to warm to my task.

This was the most tasteless of the beers offered: I had to have two glasses (on-tap), just be sure it was as bland as I thought it was after the first glass. Looked like Mr Average Pilsner, golden, clear and of course it was as fresh as you are going to get: but it was just a wet fizzy drink that a few hops and a hand full of malts had been dropped in. Very disappointing, especially as we were being looked after so well. I’ve been kind with my scoring!

This lovely amber brew was just about my favourite of the bunch on the day. Malty and caramel smells filled my nose and those flavours carried on into the taste, this is a fairly sweet brew although it does have a slight undercurrent of hop bitterness just below the surface. It catered for my sweet tooth nicely and although it wasn’t rich or creamy it did hide the alcohol level well. I would have liked more fruitiness and depth of flavour for a Dubbelbock, but it was better than OK.

30 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ Mitra. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Fruity malty aroma. Good bitter taste with some caramel sweetness. Very full round mouthfeel with a hint of alcohol warmth. Great doppelbock

Draft. Pours a clear brown with a tan head. Aroma of caramel, malt, spice and licorice. Flavour is medium sweet and bitter. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

Delicious, sweet, mild brown beer. Would be a perfect dessert beer with a cake or pie. dark brown with almost no head. Sweetness of prunes and raisins. Different style and unique to the Netherlands....

Tylko ładna piana zasługuje w tym produkcie na uznanie. Nie wiem czemu jest to klasyfikowane jako dunkle bock, jeśli chodzi o moc to smakiem przypomina strong lagera, a kolorem jasny lager, no może bardziej bohemian pilsner. Napewno nie jest to ciemne może bardziej bursztynowe. W każdym razie zbyt alkoholowe i słodkawe piwo nie w moim typie

Draft at Paraplu. Pours clear golden with a large white head. Aroma of light hops, grain and malt. Flavour is light sweet and moderate bitter. Light to medium bodied with medium to high carbonation.

Draft at Paraplu, The Hague. Pours cloudy yellow golden with a big white head. Aroma of yeast, wheat and banana. Flavour is light sweet and bitter, a little spice coming out and a strange almost fishy finish. Not a good example of the style.
