Description
The Flying Monkeys Craft Brewery leads the Craft Beer Revolution in Ontario. Brewing radical Beers and creative Ales right on the waterfront in downtown Barrie since 2004, the Flying Monkeys was the first Ontario Craft Brewery to truly recognize the need to overthrow the conservative regime of macro-brews and timid small batch taste-a-likes and create a new Culture of Craft Brewing in our province.

Casting off the comfortable and respectable cloak of the Robert Simpson Brewing Company, and revealing our true selves as the Flying Monkeys late in 2008, we gave rise to the the collective creativity of our Brewery and committed our Brewhouse to the adventurous longings of the growing culture of Craft Beer Lovers in Ontario.

Draft - Caramel and wheat. Clear gold with a thin head. Wheat and caramel as it smells with a nice balance and filtered. Interesting take and actually quite a nice sessionable ale.

(bottle) clear reddish brown colour with a small brown head; aroma of fruit, dried longans; big hoppy flavour with a long strong bitter finish; it is more of an imperial IPA than anything else

Another great limited edition beer from FM that comes in a box. Pours a clean copper colour with a beige creamy head, decent retention and some lacing. Big maple syrup nose taking over the aroma department. Hints of molasses and toffee, caramel malts. Sweet malty taste with the maple and the hoppy bitterness shows up. It does become quite sweet with the syrup but at least the mouthfeel is not syrupy, but slightly dry. I do not feel the wheat, but an overall good brew for those who like the maple syrup. A little too sweet for my taste, for such a bit bottle like this.

(Draught at Bar Hop, Nov 1 2013) Pours a very dark brown with reddish highlights, small white head didn’t last. Aroma is ancho pepper, sweet toffee malt core, slightly roasted/smoked but maybe just from the peppers. Flavour darker malts, smoky, slight roast, and then from mid-palate on the pepper kicks in. Dry, smoky, spicy. That smoky ancho pepper sensation lingers on the palate a while. Mouthfeel and carb both average. Did not really get the pumpkin, but this was quite a good pepper beer.

Way too much espresso here. Overwhelms everything. Pours cloudy dark brown. Has some bitterness in finish and some sourness without much depth. Cask Days 2013.
