Description
The Flying Monkeys Craft Brewery leads the Craft Beer Revolution in Ontario. Brewing radical Beers and creative Ales right on the waterfront in downtown Barrie since 2004, the Flying Monkeys was the first Ontario Craft Brewery to truly recognize the need to overthrow the conservative regime of macro-brews and timid small batch taste-a-likes and create a new Culture of Craft Brewing in our province.

Casting off the comfortable and respectable cloak of the Robert Simpson Brewing Company, and revealing our true selves as the Flying Monkeys late in 2008, we gave rise to the the collective creativity of our Brewery and committed our Brewhouse to the adventurous longings of the growing culture of Craft Beer Lovers in Ontario.

355ml bottle from Bierkompass

Bottled(?) 11/06/2013 - Pours orange with a smooth white head. Aroma of citrusy hops, exotic fruits, pine, resinous notes and caramely malts. Taste is hoppy, citrusy and fruity with loads of pine, resinous notes and some caramely maltiness. Finish is lingering bitter, hoppy and fruity with notes of gooseberries, citrus, grass and pine. Quite nicely hopped IPA. Would love to try this from a fresh bottle, as it’s very good from a slightly older one too.

35,5 cl bottle @ home, bottled 06.11.2013
Aroma is rather fruity with hops, some biscuits and caramel. Also distant gluey notes. Flavour is hoppy with exotic fruits, some gooseberry bush, biscuits and hints of herbs. Also distant gluey tones. Alcohol is present, but does not disturb. Nice, although the herbal bitterness takes over at the end of the glass.

355ml bottle. Clear, almost reddish amber colour with small, frothy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, off-white head. Piney, hoppy aroma, biscuity malty background, a touch of mandarine and orange zest. Taste is fruity hoppy, minimally bitter, minimally citrusy, hints of red berries, malty basis with hints of orange biscuit. Concerning taste almost a "blend" of APA and Bitter with an APA prevalence. Nice.

Bottle: Poured a deep amber color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma consists of deep sweet caramelized malt with some earthy and piney hops. Taste I also dominated by some sweet caramelized malt with light unrefined notes with some citrus and piney hops. Body is quite full with good carbonation. Too much residual sugars for my taste but still enjoyable.

This wheat poured a deep amber colour with a tan, rocky head. Scents include maple, alcohol, Baileys, fudge and more maple. First swig was smooth and very strong flavoured with minimal carbonation. Almost a oily mouthfeel with flavours of maple fudge, malt, toffee and caramel. Finish is sweet and thick on the palate with maple sugar lingering. Warms all the way down.

Bottle: Poured a clear copper color ale with a medium size foamy head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma of maple notes is quite dominant with light residuals sugar notes also perceptible. Taste is also dominated by woody maple notes which are dominant but also kind of pleasant is maybe tad over the top. Residual sugar notes are also present but not overly so with alcohol not really discernible. Body is lighter than expected with heavy filtration and medium carbonation. I am usually not that fond of overly sweet beer but the maple aromas kind of kept me interested in this beer.
