Description
Established in 1994, we make real Herefordshire cider and perry using 100% juice of vintage varieties of apples and pears, harvested from traditional standard orchards. We have been granted Protected Geographical Indications (PGI) for all our products since 2003.
We make small batches of single variety and named varietal blends of cider and perry using wild yeast with natural, slow fermentations, matured in stainless steel tanks.

We’re proud to harness traditional methods with our ancient stone press, which dates from the 18th century. We work with nature to manage the orchards and create our products, with pomace (pressed fruit pulp) going to feed neighbouring Hereford cattle, and recycling wastewater.

Bottled picked up at The Cidre Vault. It pours clear very pale greenish yellow with no head. The aroma is sweet, bright, juicy pear, red grape, musty, funky, barnyard and even a touch of bubblegum (!). The taste is firmly dry, yet actually quite soft, fresh pear, bright, grape, musty, bubblegum, touch of tannin, light sherbet, elderflower and hint of acidity with a smooth, fruity finish. Medium body and flat. Really rather classy stuff. Well rounded, bright and good depth. Really rather delicious stuff.

375ml bottle (2016 bottling). Pours a misty orange, aroma is woody with medicinal hints. Taste, again, presents some medicinal notes that merge gently into battenburg cake, with soft dabinett and yarlington mill fruit emerging. It is a little dusty and woody in parts, with some light, whispery natural funk. Not as sharp and tannin-rich as previous Gregg's Pit, but still characterful. I suspect this particular year tastes markedly different to previous years rated below.

375ml bottle from Beer Revolution, Hay on Wye. Pours a generally clear straw yellow, sparkling. Prominent aroma of medium sweet perry pear fruit. Taste presents an intriguing blend of perry pears with a deep medium sweetness. Clean tasting with soft tannins, light and fresh with an interesting fruit character.

750ml bottle, as Gregg’s Pit Herefordshire Cider, 2014 Dabinett & Yarlington Mill. Orange golden colour with a white foamy head that dissipates to a thin layer and leaves alittle lacing. Nose of tangy apple, woody oak, funky, rubber, leather. Flavour is juicy apple, sweetish with wood, oak, barnyard, leather, rubber, band-aid and some drying earthy tannins. Spritzy but soft mouthfeel, medium bodied, high carbonation, dry funky tannic finish. Very drinkable.

Bottle from The Three Counties Cider Shop, Ledbury, Herefordshire. Cotteridge, Birmingham, consumed at home Friday 20th November 2015 Wonderful aroma, a little country aroma, also some mulched up pulpy apple. A soft golden glow, nice look some white bubbles. Soft in the mouth a nice bittersweetness which offers up a juicy pudding appleyness, nice zippy feel around the gums, great tannins, it is lovely, my favourite of the night so far, at first I thought mmhhh.... that is a bit sweet but after a while it’s spot on.
