345ml bottle from Beer Cartel, Sydney. Deep golden colour, white foam head and mellow apple aroma. Taste is bittersweet apple, light apple skin, vanilla, tangy sour, hint of funk. Medium bodied, low to medium carbonation, dry slightly tannic finish. Quite drinkable.

Clear amber beer, decent pale cream colour head. Palate is light, semi dry and crispy. Thin malts with a milky sweetness. Light ripe orange hops. Dry finish. Tastes tired, passable.

345ml bottle into schooner glass @ Beverly Hills Hotel Sydney. Hoppy/caramel nose. Copper beer with solid creamy white head. Medium carbonation. Oily mouthfeel. Taste is pine needles, caramel, bitter lemon. Long finish leads to final touch of grapefruit. Great well-balanced beer, probably the best from this brewery.

If I walk into a pub with macros on tap I’m happy enough if I can at least get a Fat Yak, which is a reasonable pale ale. So this morning I found myself in the only bottle shop around with limited options and thought I’d try its cousin. It’s got macro lager written all over it. The overly sweet malt flavour pervades the aroma and the taste, leaving only a cardboard aftertaste. I bought six of these. I have five left in the fridge. I would have had more fun incinerating a twenty dollar note than handing it over to the bottle o. Somebody help me. Will sell them for $2. Actually will give them away to anyone wiling to take them off my hands.

Bottle thanks to Liz and Ben! Pours a clear gold with a near white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a bit of light fruit with a decent amount of grass with a light grain and bread backbone. Flavor has grass and a hint of earthy citrus with a bread backbone.

(Bottle) Clear golden amber with loose small white head. Fairly nasty aroma of damp cardboard and hints of rotten egg. Thin body with coarse fizzy carbonation. Watery taste, which is maybe a blessing because what there is is pretty dreadful. A shockingly bad beer from a brewery that was once excellent - milking the craft beer wave?

(Bottle) Clear pale orangey yellow with no head. Moderately unpleasant aroma with vegetable and metallic notes, maybe a hint of biscuit. Light bodied and fizzy. Thin watery taste with unpleasant metallic aftertaste. Awful.

345ml bottle into glass. Aroma of metallic hops. Pale yellow beer with fulsome white head. Constant stream of tiny bubbles ascend. Watery body followed by cooked vegetables and tin. Yet another Matilda Bay beer that looks good. Unfortunately it tastes like flat XXXX. Not good.

345ml bottle into glass. Weird aroma, fruit/cream/glue/cardboard? But the beer looks great, hazy amber with solid white head. Many fine bubbles ascend slowly. Watery taste with a distant metallic hop finish. A hint of banana maybe but really......nothing else. These Matilda Bay beers promise much, often look the goods, but deliver nothing but disappointment. A watery, tinny lager with good lacing and excellent carbonation? All you remember is the watery/tinny bit.

345ml bottle into schooner glass. Old-fashioned ’beery’ nose. Quite nostalgic. Becomes maltier. Hazy amber beer with solid white head. Light carbonation. Flat mouthfeel. A touch of fruity hoppiness. A touch of hops, a hint of grain, some lemon in the finish. A bit watery. Average thirst-quencher.
