Tap at Keyaki. Orange-amber color. Nose is orange, honey, caramel. Honey and orange flavor, bready caramel. Nice body, not much in the way of hop bitterness.

On tap at GJBF Osaka 2015. Dark brown, almost black in the glass with a tan head. Roasty chocolate nose with a med-light body and a dry finish. The taste is a roasty cocoa - pretty solid.

On tap at CBM Jimbocho. Hazy golden color with a nice off-white head. Big aromas of yeast and spice and sweet malt. Almost like a saison. Nice creamy mouthfeel that is sweet on the palate. A little tartness comes out as it comes to room temperature. Nice sweet but refreshing finish. I like this but maybe the wrong category of beer they were aiming for.

Yamaguchi Weizen another bottle from Kyoto Isetan. A shorter review on this one as I am off to the airport! It pours a very light straw gold with a thick creamy eggshell white head. It has a nice spicy weizen aroma of cloves & wheat. The body is on the thin side. The flavor is so so, kind of weak with nice spice notes, light wheat. Overall it is OK but a little too weak and somewhat watery. That pale ale was the winner of the two.

Bottle from Kyoto Isetan. An opaque orange gold with a good centimeter of creamy off-white foam makes for a nice looking beer. Interesting aroma, fruity, floral and herbal a good mix of hops + yeast notes - possibly a tad too sweet. Medium bodied, the taste has lots of malty caramel as a base quite sweet but the hops are bitter pine bark, earthy, floral hoppy goodness. A mouth-puckeringly bitter finish. This surprised me, the taste had me expecting an English Pale Ale that was malt forward and sweet but this is halfway to an APA... a Japanese Pale Ale? Maltier than most APAs but with almost as much hop punch? Not the most complex hop profile but this is solid.

Bottle. Roasted malt aroma, some cream, dark chocolate, minerals. Straightforrd and nice. Shiny, pitch black with a tall, frothy, tan head. Roasted malt and cafe au lait flavor, burnt wood, dark chocolate, with a tart edge. Slightly salty finish, very burnt. Rather simple and thin, but decent. Their best from this batch.

Rather sweet, somewhat fruity, with something strangely medicinal a bit sour. Unpleasant and a bit off. Somewhat bitter, grainy finish. Not good.
