The first real Cretan beer was a result of Dr Bernd Brink, a German mathematician based in Scotland. He came to Crete and, as a German might, wanted to bring to the island above all a genuine German beer. So the Rethymnian Brewery was set up.

Bottle at a tasting, thanks to Cuso. Moderate body, med-high carbonation. Light diacetyl, moderate caramelly malty character, but mostly balanced by moderate bitterness and a bit of grassy hops character. Okay, drinkable, not great, not terrible.

Mild bitterhet i avslutningen.

Bottle labelled Cretan Kings Mountain Beer, shared with JMD on board Fridtjofen. Clear pale straw colour. Diminishing white head. Aroma and taste of moderate pilsner hops, fresh grass, pilsner malt and a subtle hint of wet cardboard. Utterly forgetable.

24 September 2019. At Mourelo, Rethymno (Crete). Shared with the lovely Anke! Pours clear pale golden with a lasting, thin, foamy, off-white head. Aroma of yeast, bread, grain, jute bag, kitchen herbs, biscuit. Taste is light malty sweet & light hoppy bitter, bready with a soft apple touch, bit sourish, herbs & spices into the dryish, grassy hoppy finish, lingering bread & soft fruit. Light to medium body, slick texture, lively carbonation. Crisp, a bit spicy; tastes different than other Pale Lagers; recommended for its style.
