Description
Moulin Brewery is a tiny craft brewery, which began life back in 1995. The story goes, that the then owner of the Moulin Hotel, Chris Tomlinson, discussed with regulars to the Moulin Inn what he might do with the old stables at the back of the hotel. Out of these discussions came the idea of having a micro brewery and the birth of the successful brewery.

The present five barrel brewing plant is housed in what were originally a coach house and stable buildings attached to the hotel. Since its initial establishment the brewery has purchased additional fermentation tanks for added capacity but the average brew session remains at five barrels. The brewery's annual output is about 500 barrels per year.

Bottled 500ml. -3pack from the brewery (Braveheart, Atholl and Old Remedial). Amber/brown coloured, medium sized off-white head, whiff of caramel in the nose. Toasted malt, caramel, dried fruits and hint of chocolate with again not so pleasant acidity in the finish. Unfortunately all three beers were infected more or less.

Bottle picked up in Pitlochry. It pours darkest red - brown with a medium beige head. The aroma is rich, malt - driven, dried fruits, fruit cake, malt loaf, jammy and earth. The taste is initially dry, very fruity, tangy dark fruits aplenty, plum, fig, jam, raspberry pip, vinous and wood with a dry finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Old style fruity tang ale. I sort of like it.
