About
Yvan DE BAETS and Bernard LEBOUCQ meet each other in 2002, during the second edition of the Zinnekparade. Bernard had created the now famous ZINNEBIR for this unique Brussels event. However, it took another five years for BRASSERIE DE LA SENNE to settle effectively in the capital. In the meantime, the brewing activities were continued at friendly breweries. This bohemian existence came to an end on December 22, 2010, the date of the very first 100% Brussels brew!

Winter Mess from Brasserie de la Senne

750 ml bottle purchased at Blue Max in Burnsville Minnesota. Pour is a hazy cloudy burnt orange and brown with a 3 inch tan head which is very lasting. Lacing coats the glass as it falls. Aroma of hay and earthy straw right away, followed by grainy malt and yeast spiciness. Taste reverses the order a bit, starting with bright cilantro and white pepper spice, followed by a very natural straw and grass flavor. The transition between the two is quite smooth. In the finish there is some chewy, semi-sweet maltiness that rounds this up nicely. As it warms, the dry yeast spiciness really shines - along with a woodiness II didn’t get initially. Round, integrated, very tasty beer. Palate is medium, finishing dry - quite drinkable. Another great one from De La Senne.

Bottle at LCRBM 5 at Kulminator, Antwerp 2009. I know lots of people liked this, but I wasn?t so enamoured with it. Very dark brown. Stout Erik and Cantillon. Don?t think it works. 2.6/5 Bottle at Nuetnigenough Brussels. Dark brown beer lasting beige head. Typical Belgian dubbel malty aroma. Good chocolate. Huge drinkability. Malty. Likeable. Wow. I have had some good beers here today. Some hop on finish which tightens the whole thing up. I would like to meet the person who brewed this they are clearly a person of distinction.

Bottle:Almost black coloured, stable tan head; huge cellary nose (brett, dried fruits, citric or lactic acid) solid sourish-bitter flavour, light to medium bodied; endless sourish-fruity (green apples) finish with very delicate traces of roasted malt. Great.............

[9/5/09] Bottle sample during LCRBM at Kulminator in Antwerp. Dark brown color. Aroma of roasted malt, funky brett and fruits. Sour fruity flavor with some barnyard, citrus notes and roasted malt in the back. Medium to full body. Great.

750ml Bottle (Brugs Beertje, Brugge) - Golden with a slight haze, mild carbonation and a creamy head. Grain, tea and grapefruit in the aroma. The taste is bitter and fruity with grapefruit, toffee and tea.

Deep brown, nearly black beer, head gone. Sourish, gueuze-like, wood with lactic acid. Sour flavours, with roasted, burnt notes. Imagine pouring Cantillon gueuze into a medium-strength stout. Which is, of course, exactly what this beer is. Medium bodied with a light finish, but certainly the lactic and some roasted notes keep lingering on, in a thinning edition. Nice! But the lambic is very potent, nearly overwhelming the stout.

75 cL bottle, courtesy of JoeinUccle. Pours dark brown with a small off-white head. Aroma is wineous and roasted malt. Light acidic touch. Mild roasted, wooden and cherry like. Roasted and sour finish, nicely balanced. Lingering roasted and acidic.

Bottle @ ’t Brugs Beertje, Brugge. Pours a dark brown almost black color with a small off-white head. Has a malty spicy licorice aroma with hints of chocolate. Fruity malty spicy licorice flavor with some hoppy hints. Has a fruity malty spicy licorice finish.

2012-06-20, draught at Moeder Lambic, Fontainas, 7-4-8-5-16=40
Cloudy blond color with huge compact head. The aroma is spicy and a bit fruity. Good malt flavor, it has the moderate and perfect contribution of spice and fruit; the final is quite bitter, with some Belgian character.
Excellent beer, Belgian character with modern freshness touch.

Beautiful color, hazy golden, with a generous head. Perfumy aroma, German hops, light honey, cereals. Dry toffee, malt and cereals flavor, with a dash of cookies, and a strong bitterness, ending with good hop oils and attenuated hop resins; lightly fruity and sweet later. Powerful but well constructed; very good.
