Description
Yvan DE BAETS and Bernard LEBOUCQ meet each other in 2002, during the second edition of the Zinnekparade. Bernard had created the now famous ZINNEBIR for this unique Brussels event. However, it took another five years for BRASSERIE DE LA SENNE to settle effectively in the capital. In the meantime, the brewing activities were continued at friendly breweries. This bohemian existence came to an end on December 22, 2010, the date of the very first 100% Brussels brew!

750ml bottle-pours a big retaining foamy to rocky white head that laces and hazy yellow color. Aroma is grain, citrus-lemon/some herbal hops, yeast. Taste is dry, herbal, grassy/grain, some citrus-bitter. An effort that’s missed on me.

Courtesy of fishingnet. Pours gold with a bit of haze, tall white head and spotty lacing. The aroma is sweet malts mixing with tart lemon citrus-ness and a mild note of honey. The taste doesn’t start as tart as the aroma has led on with a pulse of sugar sweetness, a hint of malt and honey before the lemon like tartness ramps up to a near fever pitch into the finish and after along with some floral notes in the background.

33 cl bottle at Het Warm Water. Hazy amber color with a fluffy white head. Stone fruit aromas. Fresh stone fruit with something like incense (or fennel?). Very different. Medium body with smooth carbonation. Finishes well balanced. The odd herb flavor seems to blend into malt and fruit. Turns out to be a balanced finish of herbal bitter and light fruit. Very nice.

Bottle at La Poechenellekelder in Brussels. Commended by the server as a very good drink. Dark/brown black color with a multifinger rocky tan head. Laced. Strong aromas of toasted malt and coffee. Dark toasted malt, but smooth, not harsh. Coffee is very low key. Drinks refreshingly. At 4.5% it doesn’t weigh me down. The coffee comes forth a bit more towards the finish. Very good drink. Went well with bread and Chimay cheese.

330ml Bottle (St. Urhos, Helsinki)- Very dark, almost black in colour with some red tinges. Roasted aroma with a mild hoppiness. Quite tangy and very tasty with some coffee and chocolate being detected. Very nice and a good strength too.
