Description
Yvan DE BAETS and Bernard LEBOUCQ meet each other in 2002, during the second edition of the Zinnekparade. Bernard had created the now famous ZINNEBIR for this unique Brussels event. However, it took another five years for BRASSERIE DE LA SENNE to settle effectively in the capital. In the meantime, the brewing activities were continued at friendly breweries. This bohemian existence came to an end on December 22, 2010, the date of the very first 100% Brussels brew!

Dark, hazy-amber beer, very carbonated to disparate Coca-Cola-like head. Grapey (dark thick eating grapes), perfumey nose, and a bit of ureum. Very USA-hops and lots of ureum, even on the verge (or over) of astringency. I do not know what is used here - concentrated C-hops extract? And it clashes a bit with some spicy note (either real spice, either from the yeast). Roasted character, strengthening the hopbitterness. Medium bodied, very slick, seems to suggest more thatn 6,5%. As some kind of spiced Dunkel-IPA. Unsettling, not bad. Brewery wanted to call it different, but customers insisted.

Bottle. Rich chestnut color with a nice light tan head. Yeasty, malty, caramel, toffee, earthy aroma. Yeasty, caramel, toffee, earthy flavor with very light backing roast. Roast/burnt malt flavor builds and lingers with a bit of yeast. Medium body. Not bad and has a lot going on, but it makes me long for the things it doesn’t have (like a bit of dark/plum fruit).

(Draught at Akkurat, Stockholm) Black colour with foamy pale brown head. Roasted, slightly malty nose with coffee, cocoa and notes of citrussy hops. Slightly closed. Roasted taste with notes of coffee, tobacco and cocoa, dry throughout with lots of coffeeish bitterness in the finish. Light body, dry, with lots of bitterness. A bit thin for a stout, but still a very nice beer (and not sweet at all).

Draught Dark, hazy chestnut colour with a small fine, off-white head. Slightly lactic acid nose over the dark malts, spicy ending. Dry, nearly wry main taste; a bit (dark) bready,sweet-ish milk chocolate. Slightly burnt flavour, burning MF. Well bodied, without becoming chewy. Interesting beer. Has a lot to say, but not one I’d drive miles for. Retasting on demand of the brewer ; draught and served freezing Very dense & fine, dark yellow/cream head over deep-brown, near black beer. Quite spicy & roasted notes, roasted/burnt malts. Lightly smoked flavour, bitterish-dry, black cardemom, hint at hops. Sweet background finish. Just short of astringency, but well-bodied. Nice, and a better balanced than the first try. Yet, my marks were exactly identical. Stupid serving T°.

Pours bright gold into a tulip. Fluffy white micro head quickly subsides with a slight meringue in the middle. Candi, biscuit and hay aromas. Upfront slight horseblanket with a lasting peppery resin finish.

Bottled. A hazy light yellow beer with a white head. The aroma is acidic citrusy with continental eurpean hop notes. The flavor is sweet and acidic with notes of wheat and citrus, leading to a dry wheaty and citrusy end - reminds me of a Wit - very refreshing. The body is a bit thin

2012-07-04, draught at Les Brigittines, Bruxelles, 7-4-8-4-16=39
Cloudy blond color with compact head. Attractive spicy aroma, with leafy hops. Dry mouthfel, the yeast is very spicy, pleasant; it has a very strong bitterness.
A light beer, but with character.

2009-06-26, bottle at Beer Mania, Bruxelles, 7-4-8-4-16=39
Cloudy golden color; smal head, persistent. Spicy malt perfume, dry and spicy malt flavor, a bit of yeast character, strong bitterness. Belgian, oh yes, maybe with a modern touch.

2007-08-01, draught at Moeder Lambic, Bruxelles, 8-5-8-5-17=43
Hazy golden color; huge creamy head; nice lace. Nice aroma, with honey and fresh German hops (Hallertau?). Fresh and refreshing, easy mouthfeel, with the malt flavor and the strong hopping increasing while drinking. Excellent.

Corked bottle, 8% ABV
Dark brown color; thick head. Malty brew, with a lot of dark caramel, and a touch of roasted malt, both aroma and flavor. Full bodied. In the final the roasted malt dominates more. Solid.
