Draft. A- Sweet grains, cereal. A- Yellow color, clear liquid, white head. T- Sweet grains, subtle straw, subtle citrus. P- Light body, average texture, average carbonation, refreshing finish. O- Had with some Okinawan food. Actually pretty refreshing and not skunky at all.

22oz bottle shared with my wife on 26th May 2016: poured into two La Chouffe badged tulips at our daughters. Last white crowns on both glasses, the beers body a light golden affair. Mild orange and herbal notes in the nose and taste, although the aroma was very, very weak. Refreshing but a little uninteresting and a typical International Lager/Pilsner in so much as being clean, clear and clinical in looks and flavour.

I’ve had this numerous times over the years, but noticed on my recent trip to Okinawa that this has got markedly better (not sure if the recipe changed). Also the quality of the beer I had on draft varied fairly significantly, but overall, I can say this is my second favorite Japanese mainstream beer now. At its peak condition this shows great toasted malt and cereal character with a rich malty backbone. I will rate for what I think my overall experience was with the beer, but at its best its a good 3.4/3.5 range

A very bright gold with a minimal white head. Bready wheat and spicy cloves, a bit artificial but ok. Spicy, wheaty, lemon and cloves. Actually it’s not too bad and quite good for a major’s sort of crafty option.

Can. Clear gold with a tall, fine head. Nose of wheat, some cloves and banana, esters, cracker and biscuit, coriander. Sweet and cloying, banana and coriander. Like a weizen / Wit hybrid.

Can from 7/11. Drank from the can. Light citrus aromas with strong mint, lemon and pine notes. Light caramel malts with some sudachi and lime. Fairly bitter on the palate and finish, but a little metallic and astringent. Not a bad effort but not that great either. --- Beer merged from original tick of Ryukyu Pale Ale on 01 Jan 2016 at 17:16 - Score: 4

A golden beer with a huge white head. The aroma has notes of straw and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, straw, and citrus fruits, leading to bitter finish.

500ml can into shaker. Can says ’Orion Draft Beer’. Distant hop nose. Clear golden amber beer with fluffy white head. Medium carbonation. Clean mineral taste and feel. Finish has a slight tang, a touch of metal then a finishing wave of sweet malt. Not bad, easy drinking and a little different to other Asian lagers.

Looks like Asahi’s Orion beer is getting in on the craft game with a new Orion Craft Series. This is their Ryukyu Pale Ale 5.5% A deep gold appropriate ABV with a minty fruity pine hop bouquet that has a flour/light bready tinge. The taste is fairly bitter, a little astringent pine & fruity hops but the finish is bitter grains. A passable pale ale which at 250¥ is ok but I’d probably pay the extra 20-50 yen for a Yo Ho beer or Captain Crow.
