Sampled from the tap at the brewery. Pours a clear yellow with a lime hue and a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of lime with some earthy wheat and straw supporting. Flavor has a good amount of salt with a bit tart lime and a wheat backbone.

4 ounce at the brewery - dark ruby, nearly black - heavy on caramelized sugars and vanilla - a bit of dark fruit, followed by a subtle acidity that tries to balance the sweetness, with mixed results - boozy finish - meh.

10 ounce at the brewery - tastes like they used the Westmalle yeast in this one, which I am grateful for - rich caramelized sugars and dark fruit up front (raisin, plum), followed by some dusty yeast and finishing with a spicy/peppery phenolic bite, balancing the sweetness - a tiny bit of huskiness on the tail end, but otherwise a solid rendition.

10 ounce at the brewery - hazy straw pour - nose is a complex mix of oak, white grape, peach, moderate funk, a touch of lacto tartness - soft in the mouth - lovely balance of tartness/acidity, funk, and mild sweetness - deeply oaky, moderately tart, notes of pear, melon, funkiness, white wine - finishes super dry and moderately tart - balanced, delicate, and delicious.

Pint can - mostly still ruby pour - nose of whiskey, treacle, brown sugar, sherry, a very light funkiness - kind of flat and lifeless in the mouth, but I appreciate the traditional British flavor profile this brings - treacle, caramel, plum - some oxidation and oak - a bit heavy on the whiskey late, but still not as overbearing as some other BA barleywines - I’m glad I’ve started returning to OMF beers - I was not impressed in their early years, but they’ve really upped their game since.

4 ounce at the brewery - dark ruby pour - chewy and quite sweet, with heavy bourbon character that becomes quite heavily boozy in the finish - too much for the malt structure to sustain, really, getting very hot on the tail end.

10 ounce at the brewery - oh shit, this thing smells smoky as fuck - straight up campfire in a glass - flavor is lightly sweet, lightly tart, with some notes of dark fruit and caramelized sugars - robust smokiness without developing that abrasive character that plagues so many beers like this - lightly warming alcohol - ranks up there with schlenkerla beers in terms of smoke levels - delicious.

10 ounce at the brewery - clear dark gold - richly smoky nose - fairly creamy texture - lightly toasty maltiness - moderate bitterness - moderate smoke - mostly clean, but has a slight underlying sourness that lessens the enjoyment a bit.

10 ounce at the brewery - turbid black pour - looks a bit sludgy - nose smells like straight up fudge - just all chocolate and spices - slick and full mouthfeel - sweet, but not cloying, as something of this strength can be - cinnamon adds spice that cuts the sweetness tempers the thick mouthfeel - vanilla manifests late, but lightens/brightens things a bit leading into the finish - really tasty, but lacks in looks a bit - but, Dune-themed beer, so fuck, yeah!
