Notes from 5/15/19 16oz can from Tasty Beverage in Asheville. Mojito glass. Pours out the color & clarity of a Stella. Small, quickly dissipating head. Smells of faint tangerine/orange oil, lemon & light touch of grain. Taste is obviously tart upfront, kettle sour-ish, with lemon & a very mellow & unidentifiable berry note. Fleeting carbonation. Malty sweet, but thin, acidic finish. Meh.

Pounder from TJ's for $3ish. Pint glass @home. Opaque, dark brown, russet pour. Tall pour but not much of the sandy tan head. Hot cocoa mix, faint cinnamon & a slight tickle on my nose from the chilis. Very weak coffee. Frothy, milkshake thick. Bittersweet cocoa with a very forward + very lingering cayenne burn, Big Red cinnamon bite & a mildly earthy coffee finish that comes through more as it warms. Calcium, medium high acid & medium low carbonation. Feels a bit stronger than it really is. Half a step too spicy to be sessionable. Kinda good.

Pint on tap at Uptown Mini Bar, CLT airport. It's a virtually opaque dark brown with finger-width creamy beige foam head with excellent retention and nice rings of lacing. Aroma is roasted malt. Taste is strong roasted malt. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with thick, creamy texture, average carbonation and finish as taste with lingering roasted bitterness. Overall, not getting the advertised lemon but good strength of aroma and flavor of a brown ale.

Mild grainy sweetness mixed with cut grass, a touch of white bread, and a little apple. Finishes with the slightest of floral bitterness and lingering yeast in the fade. Very basic, but inoffensive.

16 oz. can. Aroma is purely lime. Flavor is, as you would expect lime with a mild bread hint. Light body with a crisp finish.

3 week old pint can A: Poured a dull dirty gold with a thick cloud of sediment unfolding. Unappealing look but a nice thick tall head with very good retention. S: Generic citrus and tropical fruit notes and lightly sweet wafer cookies. Some lime stands out. T: Tart and lightly bitter fruity hops and a detracting sweetish mineral aspect. Nothing particularly stands out. Has an artificial character. M: Medium body, low to average carbonation and a dirty finish. O: Doesn't look, smell or taste very good. This one's a miss.

6 week old pint can A: Clear medium gold with a short, fast falling white head. S: Fresh citrus notes and strong honey. T: Moderately bitter with citrus zest and pith mingling with floral notes, wood and honey or caramel. A slight alcohol aftertaste. M: Medium full body with average carbonation and a slick finish. O: Starts out good but the sweet malts get a bit heavy after a while. Drinks stronger than it is.

3 month old pint can A: Pitch black pour save for low purple hues under light. Crackling 1/4 head that fell pretty fast. S: Light scent of bitter chocolate, cocoa powder and black coffee. T: Bitter, sweet and increasingly hot as coffee and chocolate battle the chili; then a hit of cinnamon to top it off. It all holds together somehow and of course the chili heat lingers. M: Smooth, light and moderately carbonated with lightly ashy finish. O: This pulls off quite a trick, as there's a lot going on. Too much for my tastes. It's impressive but I probably couldn't drink two.
