On tap at Bone Lick BBQ. Pours black, with a big, pillowy, tan head. Nose is chocolate, molasses, a little caramelized sugar and a light smoke. Very sweet, with faint roasted bitterness. Heavy body, syrupy, and a little astringent, and a little dry. Overall, this is a pretty nice, thick, and smoky porter.
Earlier Rating: 4/9/2014 Total Score: 3
Sample at the brewery. Pours black, with a medium, beige, bubbly head. The aroma is hickory smoke, pine, bitter chocolate, and a bit of an unpleasant funk. Syrupy sweet, with a mild, burnt bitterness. Medium body, sticky and a little harsh. Overall, this is a fair porter, but the smoke is a little off-putting, and the porter base seems unbalanced and overly bitter.

Sample at the brewery. Pours a hazy, orangish-brown color, with a big, foamy, beige head. The aroma is orange peels, pumpernickel, rye, honey, and apricots. Some malty, grainy sweetness, with a significant, mellow bitterness. Medium body, sticky, and astringent. Overall, this is a hoppy, aggressive amber ale, with a great aroma. I could drink lots of this...

Sample at the brewery. Pours a light gold color, with a small, off-white head and lots of lacing. Aromas of papayas, mangoes, white bread, and hay. Light, subdued sweetness, with a distinct, but mellow, bitterness. Light to medium body, sticky, astringent and grainy mouthfeel. This is a light, relatively easy-drinking beer, but with a nice, tropical undertone. Well done dry-hopping!

Bottle. Pours clear golden amber, medium creamy beige head that dissipates slowly and laces well. Aroma is citra, tropical passionfruit citrus, pine and a touch of forest floor dankness. Not a strong aroma, but very pleasant. Flavor follows, light sweet and light bitter, pleasant tropical fruity hoppiness. Perhaps just a slight touch of harshness on the finish, but this is a well crafted beer overall. Body is a little light, but otherwise I heartily recommend.
