Description
Located in the heart of Nashville, TN, New Heights Brewing is a small craft brewery that creates ales we’re passionate about and crave—from intensely hoppy IPAs to crisp, clean ales and rich imperial stouts. It all began with a brew kit—that head brewer, Jeff Fountain, received from his wife, Tracey. After lots of corporate hours in cultures highly reminiscent of the movie Office Space, Jeff quit his 9-5 to do what really made him happy—working with his hands and giving back to the community by making great beer.

From his beginnings as a microbrewery volunteer in Carlsbad, CA, to brewer at San Diego’s Mission Brewery, Jeff honed his craft and discovered his own style. Through his job at Mission and his involvement in local homebrew clubs (Mash Heads), Jeff was exposed to some of the best and brightest craftsmen in the industry.

In 2014, armed with years of experience, research, plans, and thousands of backyard brewing hours to unearth the perfect first flight, Jeff and Tracey moved to Nashville to start New Heights Brewing—an ode to their San Diego neighborhood (our logo features the University Heights’ North Park Water Tower in front of the Nashville skyline), and a salute to starting new beginnings, making bold moves, and finding “home” wherever you are.

Wickedly sweet, with a massive swath of caramel and booze underlining a formidable hop bitterness. The sweetness grows saccharine and cloy rather quickly though, accentuating candy chocolate notes and a somewhat odd vegetal vein on the back end. Too big and boozy; I'd say give it age, but any developing sweetness won't help at all. Kind of a mess. Caramel, chocolate, and grain alcohol on the nose. Very, very hot. Not the goodest beer.

Draft at the source. Pours a clearish golden brown color with a small beige head that leaves a ring that lingers. Tea like aromas with notes of raspberry leaf. Tea-like body with more raspberry and light sugar notes. Thin body and finish. Lingering tea leaf bitterness.

Draft at the source. Pours an unclear deep brown with a finger of foam that dissipates. Lots of cacao nib and milk chocolate in the nose, then cinnamon and nutmeg come out as it warms. Rich and thick for such a low abv porter, great body. More cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice with chocolate. Lingering light chili pepper on the finish. Nice drop...much like a baby abraxas. --- Beer merged from original tick of Chocolatl Aztec on 21 Apr 2018 at 20:00 - Score: 7

Can from Craft Brewed. Pours a clear straw gold with a finger of foam that lingers. Light stone fruit aroma with grass and melon. Low malt, super crushable on the palate. Fruity, with some lemon and mineral on the finish. Really enjoyable dry-hopped lager. --- Beer merged from original tick of Pilsner on 16 Apr 2018 at 19:30 - Score: 7. Pretty amazing nose on this pint, a huge bouquet of stone fruit, pineapple, mango and lemon-lime, backed up by traces of earth and wet malt. Taste mostly follows suit, except for the unexpected firm bitterness on the back end, a welcome nod to old school West Coast hop-bombs inside a decidedly northeastern IPA. Grows medicinal as it warms, though, and I wish the hops were a tad brighter, but otherwise a very drinkable beer. Pours a hazy gold with a brief fizzy white head and modest lacing. Texture's perky but not quite as smooth as you want in the style. Good, but not a classic.

Draft at Craft Brewed. Pours pitch black with a thin ring of beige head that lingers on the edge of the glass. Deep cacao nib, prune, coffee vanilla oak and coconut aromas. Super smooth. Abv hidden very well. Fudge, prune plum, coconut bar. Warming with some bourbon notes on the end. Really well done. --- Beer merged from original tick of Eagle Rare Barrel Aged Navel Gazer on 03 Apr 2018 at 17:52 - Score: 8. Original review text: Right. Can from Craft Brewed and multiple draft pours. Pours a clearish deep gold with a finger of foam that lingers, then dissipates. Dank aromas with peach, apricot, banana and dragonfruit aromas. Smooth on the palate, with a medium prickly pineapple bitterness. Some green tea mid-palate, with dry tropical fruit finish that lingers, some durian in there as well. --- Beer merged from original tick of 5ish Year Anniversary Beer on 26 Mar 2018 at 22:02 - Score: 8
